Apple TV+ Releases Teaser Trailer For Cape Fear Series Starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams

Apple TV+ is diving back into one of Hollywood’s most chilling revenge stories: .

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming ten-part series, starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson. The show is a reimagining of both the 1962 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald and Martin Scorsese’s 1991 film Cape Fear, updated for a modern audience with a focus on psychological thrills. Javier Bardem plays Max Cady—a role famously portrayed by Robert De Niro—a recently released convict determined to get revenge on the lawyers who sent him to prison.

The film stars Adams and Wilson as Anna and Tom Bowden, a couple whose peaceful life is disrupted when Cady reappears, leading to a tense and unsettling psychological conflict. Unlike the original film by Scorsese, this version gives Tom’s wife, Anna, a much larger role – she’s also a lawyer who was involved in putting Cady away. The cast also features CCH Pounder, Malia Pyles, Lily Collias, and Joe Anders.

The trailer creates a sense of growing unease, suggesting a seemingly normal family is falling apart with the return of Cady. Unlike the legendary character Robert De Niro portrayed, Javier Bardem’s Cady is unsettling and mysterious, appearing in brief, haunting glimpses. He has a disturbing charm, and the trailer makes it feel like he’s both present and absent. The most memorable part is Cady repeatedly saying, “You deserve this.” This phrase isn’t just about getting even; it hints at a deeply personal motivation behind his actions.

The Bowden family is falling apart, and at the heart of it is Anna, who becomes more and more disturbed as she wonders if they deserve the revenge Cady is planning. She starts to suspect Cady knows about a past misdeed. Meanwhile, Tom is visibly frightened and desperately tries to keep the family from crumbling as Cady infiltrates their lives. Unlike the original movie, which focused on the Bowdens’ teenage daughter, this series seems to be targeting Anna and Tom directly.

Based on the trailer, this new take on the Scorsese thriller seems to be focusing heavily on the psychological aspects of the story. Cady isn’t just a typical villain; she appears as a relentless and haunting presence that the Bowden family can’t escape.

The new series Cape Fear has a powerhouse team both in front of and behind the camera. Nick Antosca, known for The Act, is the creator and showrunner, and Morten Tyldum (an Academy Award nominee) directed the pilot and is also an executive producer. Martin Scorsese is the overall director, and Steven Spielberg, who previously produced the 1991 film with Scorsese, returns as an executive producer alongside him. Javier Bardem and Amy Adams are also serving as executive producers.

The new series, Cape Fear, will premiere on Apple TV+ on June 5, 2026. The first two episodes will be available immediately, with new episodes released every week until July 31.
