Amy Adams felt ‘so vulnerable and so exposed’ during her early years in Hollywood.

Over five decades, the actress, now 50 years old, has thrived remarkably in the film industry. However, at the start of her journey, Amy grappled with bouts of self-questioning and fragility.

According to the Junebug star, they shared with Variety: “I was incredibly innocent, and I believe I was quite fearful to reveal any genuine aspects or shadows of the human condition.

‘I would have felt so vulnerable and so exposed.’

In her twenties, Adams began her career as a dancer before making her first appearance on screen alongside Denise Richards in the black comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999).

In the year 2002, her breakout movie appearance took place in Steven Spielberg’s biographical film titled “Catch Me If You Can,” sharing screen time with Leonardo DiCaprio.

She made a significant leap forward in her career when she played a pregnant character in the film Junebug (2005). This role earned her her initial nomination for an Academy Award.

Next came Enchanted (2007), Doubt (2008), The Fighter (2010) and The Master (2012). 

From 2013 to 2017, she portrayed Lois Lane in superhero films set in the DC Extended Universe. 

She bagged two back-to-back Golden Globe Awards for her performances as a captivating swindler in the 2013 crime movie, American Hustle, and as the renowned artist Margaret Keane in the 2014 biopic, Big Eyes.

In the 2016 sci-fi movie “Arrival,” she played a main role, portrayed a troubled journalist in the HBO mini-series “Sharp Objects” in 2018, and acted as Lynne Cheney in the comedy-drama “Vice” which was also released in 2018.

She also told Variety that becoming a mother changed her. 

Amy is mom to a 14-year-old daughter named Aviana, and she feels that motherhood has significantly impacted her professional journey as an actress.

The movie star explained that her daughter is now her focus, rather than her film career.

She said: ‘Every moment needed to be dedicated to the care and keeping of my child.

Having children shifted my focus in life significantly, and I believe this change affected some of my relationships. It wasn’t always easy, but I don’t find it unusual for parenthood to cause such adjustments.

Amy is now keen to work with a new generation of actors and actresses. 

Moreover, the seasoned actress openly expressed her affection for fellow cast member Jenna Ortega during their work together on Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun adaption.

Amy explained: ‘I learn so much from the young women that I work with.

It seems I gain more knowledge from them than vice versa at times. Occasionally, I forget they’re not my contemporaries. I often find myself thinking, “Amy, you’re 50; you’re not meant to be hanging out like this!

Despite this, Amy observed that there are still some benefits to being an older actress.

Amy, with numerous accolades under her belt, such as two Golden Globe awards, expressed: “Things just keep improving, but there are aspects I long for: flexibility in my joints, youthful skin elasticity, and the like.
