As a die-hard NASCAR fan, I can’t help but feel awe and admiration for Kyle Busch and his extraordinary career. With over 200 victories under his belt, he’s not just a racer; he’s a living legend. The way he’s been tearing up the tracks since his 201st win in 2019 is nothing short of breathtaking.

Champion NASCAR racer Kyle Busch, who hails from a racing dynasty, intends to guide his nine-year-old son’s racing journey in much the same way as his father Tom did for him.

Kyle stands ninth on the overall Cup Series victories chart, boasting an impressive tally of 63 wins. What sets him apart, though, is his exceptional record across all three major NASCAR circuits, where he leads with a total of 231 wins. Interestingly, his brother Kurt has also claimed victory in the Cup Series, making them both racing champions in their own right.

However, Kyle isn’t just targeting the Busch family dynasty within NASCAR; he aspires to join another distinguished lineage in the sport as well.

Busch spoke to Beyond the Flag about this partnership ahead of the race weekend.

Busch win streak at risk; sits at 19 seasons

The upcoming race will be sponsored by Straight Talk Wireless, and I’m eager to clinch victory during this event. It would mark an impressive milestone of 20 years of wins in the NASCAR Cup Series for me. Winning the Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend would be truly remarkable.

Starting from his debut season in 2005, Busch has maintained a winning streak that now spans over 19 years. Last year, he surpassed Richard Petty’s record of 18 consecutive winning seasons when he secured his first victory with Richard Childress Racing at Auto Club Speedway.

This year marks Busch’s first absence from the playoffs since 2012, but ending his winning streak isn’t a completely new scenario for him. Back in 2020, his streak of 15 wins was on the verge of coming to an end until he clinched race number 34 out of 36 at Texas Motor Speedway, another 1.5-mile track.

He thinks he can do the same thing at Homestead-Miami, where he won in both 2015 and 2019 to clinch his two championships.

As a devoted enthusiast, I can’t help but express my thrill for the race track situated below. It’s unlike any other circuit I’ve driven on, offering various lanes for racing and allowing me to navigate the entire track with ease. The uppermost part, skirting the wall, is the preferred route, yet it’s a delicate dance with danger. Brushing against the barrier can potentially harm my vehicle, but the risk is often worth the speed boost I get closer to it.

As a devoted fan myself, I can’t help but reminisce about that extraordinary venue where I’ve tasted triumph twice – by claiming two races and two championships over the years. The memories of those late-night photoshoots and the electrifying interviews following my championship victories are still vivid in my mind. It’s a place that holds a special place in my heart, and I yearn for another chance to stand atop the victory podium there once more.

Regardless of whether Busch’s winning streak ends at 19 seasons or not, he will undoubtedly cherish the fond memories associated with it.

It’s not the first record of Petty’s he’s broken.

Busch boasted about his impressive win streak in the Xfinity Series, with a total of 102 victories under his belt. He added that the runner-up has significantly fewer wins, and he is now poised to surpass Richard Petty’s record set in 1984 – a feat no one else had managed until Busch came along.

In 2019, Busch surpassed Petty’s long-standing NASCAR national series record of 200 wins with his 201st career triumph, and he has added an additional 30 victories to that tally since then. As of now, he boasts 63 Cup Series wins, 102 Xfinity Series wins, and 66 Truck Series wins.

Regarding his impressive 19-year winning streak, which surpassed a Petty record established in 1977, Kyle Busch is uncertain if this will continue. This is one reason why he aims not just to reach 20 wins but extend it into the mid-twenties before he retires.

He suggested that it could last,” he said. “It may endure for my entire lifetime, but who can tell? We’ll find out. The sport seems to be evolving significantly, and I believe it might persist even at 19 years. However, if I’m still competing at ages 24, 25, or 26 in total, I’d like the record to remain untouched throughout.

He’s triumphed previously at Homestead-Miami, Martinsville Speedway, and Phoenix Raceway – the three venues still upcoming in this year’s lineup – and he believes this coming weekend presents his strongest opportunity yet to continue that winning trend.

Busch stated that the upcoming Straight Talk Wireless 400 this weekend at Homestead seems promising to him. He’s had victories there in the past and considers it a favorable track for his driving style. Notably, they performed exceptionally well on a mile-and-a-half track recently at Kansas, which shares some characteristics with this one.

He is hoping it doesn’t come down to races 35 and 36.

I believe Martinsville has a touch of the intense short-track vibe, followed by Phoenix where I’ve also claimed victory. However, the Championship 4 racing for the title in that event will be challenging. Yet, there’s always a chance we could disrupt their plans.

Despite being frustrated by missing out on this year’s playoffs following two consecutive second-place finishes in crucial races at Daytona International Speedway and Darlington Raceway towards the end of the regular season, Busch acknowledged that it feels distinctly different not having to handle the stress associated with elimination, playoff points, the cut line, and all the other aspects that come with being a driver still contending for the championship at this stage.

He mused, “Indeed, it seems there are two aspects to consider. Absolutely, not qualifying for the playoffs does mean a slight reduction in pressure. There isn’t as much stress associated with everything that comes along with it.

To Busch, maintaining the winning streak was what mattered most to him all along. A victory during his 20th consecutive season wouldn’t mark his first win without qualifying for the playoffs.

He mentioned that there’s an ongoing personal expectation for him to achieve another victory this year, making it the 20th consecutive one. This feeling is similar to being in the playoffs since winning is necessary to progress, and he feels like he needs to win this race to carry on the streak. In other words, it’s a very tough objective given how strong everyone is currently performing.
