Married At First Sight groom David Momoh speaks out on the shock injury that ended his relationship with Alissa – and what he regrets most about the show

Married At First Sight’s David Momoh revealed he was suffering from severe physical pain while the show was being filmed, and this greatly impacted his connection with his wife, Alissa Fay.

The 31-year-old manager, who works in e-commerce, shared with Daily Mail that he hurt his knee before starting the dating show last year. He felt this injury prevented him from being his best on camera.

David explained that viewers only saw a small part of who he really is. He was dealing with a knee injury and spent two months on antibiotics while filming, which left him feeling unwell and not at his peak physically and emotionally.

I hadn’t realized how much this changed me, it really brought my spirits down. Plus, my knee just kept bleeding and wouldn’t stop.

David explained that his injury made it difficult to be himself on the show, preventing his true personality from shining through and ultimately affecting his connection with Alissa.

He explained that while he played a silent character on the show, he’s actually a very expressive person in real life. He also shared a funny detail about constantly having to bandage a scraped knee to avoid ruining his pants during filming, calling it a really difficult experience.

I wasn’t feeling well at all. I couldn’t work out or stick to my training routine, and the antibiotics I was taking had unpleasant side effects. It was really disappointing because it happened during our honeymoon, and it unfortunately put a damper on the whole trip.

He explained he felt Alissa hadn’t given him enough support when he needed it, and that she seemed to grow increasingly annoyed with the situation as it continued.

She was incredibly supportive when I first got injured, really helping me and taking care of me. But as I continued to recover, she started to get frustrated, he explained.

David explained his playful TikTok videos, where he jokingly teased his relationship with Alissa, saying it was all meant to be lighthearted.

He believes a little humor helps get you through life and is always welcome. He also clarified that he doesn’t dislike Alissa or consider her a bad person.

He highlighted a recent video where he made fun of Alissa for discussing his money, explaining that he felt it violated his personal principles.

He was upset that she discussed his possessions, especially since he’d never shared his financial information with her. ‘I don’t need to explain anything to her or prove anything,’ he stated.

Men generally keep two things to themselves: their income and their future plans. I’m the same way – I don’t feel the need to broadcast my successes, but I’m happy to enjoy them privately.

The Brisbane local also shared his thoughts on Mel Schilling, the series expert who sadly passed away last week at 54 after fighting bowel cancer. He said he was deeply impressed by her bravery and determination throughout her illness.

He said that throughout the experiment, she seemed perfectly fine. She was cheerful, engaging, and always made a good impression. No one could tell she was struggling with anything.

I’m just so incredibly impressed. Seeing her perform even when she was clearly struggling… it was amazing. Honestly, she’s one of a kind, and I’ll always remember how much she inspired me. She truly left her mark on my life.

David recently shared his honest feelings, following Alissa’s revelation about when she realized her marriage to him was finished.

The 33-year-old registered nurse told the Daily Mail that problems in their marriage began when her husband started discussing personal issues publicly.

Alissa shared that about a month into the experiment, something happened that deeply affected the team. ‘It really damaged our trust,’ she explained, ‘and honestly, I never truly recovered from it. I carried that hurt with me for a long time.’

That problem really started to reveal the issues in our relationship. I was shocked when we were arguing right in front of the counselors. It made me wonder why you hadn’t told me about it before.

Alissa said she was upset that David didn’t come to her directly with his concerns, choosing instead to discuss them publicly.
