The woman charged with firing a gun at Rihanna’s home in Beverly Hills – while Rihanna and her family were inside – has had her license to work as a speech-language pathologist revoked in California.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, age 35, lost her driver’s license after the state attorney general requested it be revoked. This follows her arrest related to an incident on March 8th at the home of the 38-year-old singer known as Umbrella, according to documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
The suspect, 35, is a licensed speech pathologist with over ten years of experience, but is now facing 14 charges, including attempted murder, related to the recent incident.
This happened after the state board that oversees speech pathology asked that Ortiz be prevented from practicing her profession if she were to be released from jail.
According to court records, Ortiz received her license in April 2016, and it wasn’t scheduled to expire until June 2027.
Ortiz entered a plea of not guilty to all charges during a court hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Derek Ray Dillman, the deputy public defender, first entered a not-guilty plea for Ortiz. However, they later removed that plea because of problems with the court’s schedule.
On March 10th, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced charges against Ortiz, including attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a firearm, and three counts of shooting at a home or vehicle where people were present.
Ortiz could face up to life in state prison if convicted of the crimes, Hochman said.
Reports initially stated that A$AP Rocky, Rihanna’s partner whose full name is Rakim Mayers, wasn’t at home when the shooting occurred.
The district attorney clarified that the artist known as Helicopter, age 37, was inside an Airstream trailer on Rihanna’s property when Ortiz reportedly started shooting.
Prosecutors charged Ortiz with three counts of firing a gun into a home because Rihanna’s estate has two houses, and he’s also accused of shooting at a neighbor’s house, according to Hochman.
Prosecutors stated that each of the ten assault charges represented a separate person Ortiz allegedly threatened.
According to prosecutors, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their three children (RZA, age three; Riot, age two; and five-month-old Rocki), and Rihanna’s mother were all at her home when the shooting happened. Two members of her staff were also present.
Two other individuals were also in the neighboring residence that Ortiz allegedly fired on.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the shooting, but a law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that Rihanna and Rocky were very close to being hit.
During a press conference, the Los Angeles District Attorney stated that Judge Theresa McGonigle set bail for Ortiz at $1,875,000. If Ortiz is released on bail, she is required to have no contact with Rihanna and Rocky.
As well as granting the restraining order, the judge also required Ms. Ortiz to turn in all of her guns. It’s a standard procedure in these cases, prioritizing safety for everyone involved. As a lifestyle expert focused on well-being, I always emphasize the importance of taking steps to ensure a safe environment, and this ruling definitely reflects that.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell recently stated that detectives are still trying to determine why the shooting happened. The investigation is being handled by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division and is currently in progress.
The Daily Mail reports that Ortiz has previously posted online messages specifically aimed at Rihanna.
She publicly vented her anger on Facebook, posting harsh criticisms of the singer. In one post, she claimed Rihanna had said something bad about her, but there’s no evidence they’ve ever even met or spoken.
She posted videos talking about Rihanna’s supposed death and made threatening statements directed at the singer.
The Daily Mail reports that Ortiz was previously arrested in Florida for domestic violence, reckless driving, and not following the rules of his pretrial release.
