DC Studios recently revealed new looks at Jason Momoa as Lobo, just before releasing the second trailer for Supergirl. These previews gave fans the best view yet of the character, known as one of the galaxy’s most fearsome bounty hunters.
Jason Momoa’s Lobo is ‘The Galaxy’s Baddest Bounty Hunter’
Jason Momoa is set to star as Lobo in the new Supergirl movie from DC Studios, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
On March 31st, the official Supergirl social media account posted a video of Jason Momoa as Lobo riding his motorcycle. The caption playfully stated, “It’s not about the destination. It’s about the friends you make along the way.” Lobo, a character originating in DC Comics, is a bounty hunter and mercenary from the planet Czarnia. Director Craig Gillespie notes that he’s one of the many interesting characters featured in this space-themed story.
Jason Momoa always hoped to play the character Lobo. He was initially excited when DC first approached him, thinking it was for that role, but ended up playing Aquaman in the previous DC movie universe. After seven years as Aquaman, he’s thrilled to be joining the new DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Entertainment Weekly recently released new photos of Jason Momoa as Lobo, showing him happily riding Lobo’s iconic motorcycle. He’s pictured gripping the handlebars and sporting a large grenade as a necklace. Director James Gunn has said that the movie Supergirl draws heavy inspiration from The Fifth Element, a film he loves for its vibrant characters and immersive world-building, which influenced how Lobo and other characters are integrated into the movie’s universe.
While Jason Momoa won’t be a central figure in the new Supergirl series, DC Studios intends to feature him again as the bounty hunter character in upcoming DC Universe projects. This role echoes a similar tough persona he played as Dante Reyes in last year’s Fast X.
I just got word that DC is dropping a brand new, full trailer for ‘Supergirl’ on March 31st! If you’re like me and eagerly awaiting this one, mark your calendars. The movie itself is hitting theaters on June 26th, so we won’t have to wait too long after the trailer to finally see it.
