Daddy Pig, while training for the London Marathon, also made time to appear on the cover of a magazine.
Peppa Pig’s dad, just like Harry Styles and Sir Mo Farah before him, recently appeared on the cover of Runner’s World magazine.
Next month, a popular cartoon character will participate in the London Marathon, running the full 26.2-mile distance. This effort is to support the National Deaf Children’s Society and raise money following the recent diagnosis of hearing loss for the character’s son, George.
For the first time ever on Peppa Pig, Daddy Pig will be running a marathon – both in an upcoming episode and in real life! He’ll be completing the race wearing a special running outfit.
Daddy Pig recently told Runner’s World about how he manages to find time for running while also working and taking care of his three children: Peppa, age four, George, age two, and baby Evie.
Daddy Pig remarked that splashing in muddy puddles is surprisingly good exercise, something people don’t usually think about!
‘People focus on the mud that gets, well, everywhere… But yes, the balance takes teamwork.’
Mummy Pig and I work really well together! We’ve figured out some good solutions – I now jog to work, and Peppa and George enjoy being carried at the same time. When you’re determined – or have a cheerful little pig like Peppa – you can always find a way!
Peppa assisted her dad by creating a workout playlist. He shared that they ‘made a playlist called Daddy Pig’s Motivation Mix, which always does the job,’ and it helps him stay energized.
Peppa even wrote a song about it, called ‘Coach Peppa’s Exercise,’ and it’s really energetic! But you can’t go wrong with her other popular tunes like ‘Pig Pony Club,’ ‘Uptown Oink,’ ‘No Piggity,’ and ‘Bitter Sweet Symph-oinky’ – they’re always a hit.
And of course the whole family will be there on the day to cheer Daddy Pig on.
Daddy Pig excitedly explained that his family was planning the best spots to watch and cheer for him and the other runners. ‘It’s going to be wonderful!’ he said.
My supporters came up with some really inventive fundraising ideas. Peppa Pig, for example, jokingly suggested a ‘sponsored loudness’ – basically, making as much noise as possible instead of staying quiet for donations! We ended up finding other, more practical ways to raise money together, though.
Daddy Pig isn’t just running for fun – he wants to support the National Deaf Children’s Society by raising money and awareness. He’s joining a team of 50 other runners for the event, and hopes to inspire his children along the way.
Daddy Pig shared that the NDCS has been a fantastic source of help and guidance ever since they learned George has moderate hearing loss in one ear. He explained that fundraising felt like a great way to thank them for everything they’ve done.
Last month, it was revealed that a new storyline in the popular children’s show will feature Peppa Pig’s younger brother being diagnosed with moderate hearing loss.
In a recent episode, George discovers he has some hearing loss in one ear during a regular check-up with his doctor. His family learns he has moderate hearing loss during the appointment.
After receiving a hearing aid, he’s able to hear sounds differently, and this heartwarming story continues to show the importance of including everyone’s perspective.
You can find the complete interview with Daddy Pig in the May issue of Runner’s World UK, available from April 1st. And don’t miss the new Peppa Pig episode where Daddy Pig runs a marathon – it’s coming to Milkshake on April 18th.
