Strictly Come Dancing star Paul Merson reveals his ‘secret link’ to one judge following after getting his marching orders from BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing star Paul Merson reveals his 'secret link' to one judge following after getting his marching orders from BBC show

As a die-hard Strictly fan, I must confess that this year’s competition has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions! Paul Merson, the ex-footballer who charmed us all with his infectious enthusiasm and unexpected dance moves, has unfortunately bid adieu to the ballroom.

According to reports, Paul Merson shared that he has a past connection with one of the Strictly Come Dancing judges in an interview on BBC Two’s It Takes Two show on Monday.

In the contest, the retired soccer player (age 56) and his professional dance partner Karen Hauer (age 42) were eliminated as the fourth pair. They faced a dance-off with JB Gill and Amy Dowden, ultimately losing the competition round.

In conversation with Fleur East, Paul admitted that he and Anton Du Beke have attended several social events together, following her observation that he received a higher score from her compared to the other judges.

He indicated that it would have been unfortunate if Anton hadn’t attended. Previously, I had been to a few events with him, so I had already met him. Anton seems like a friendly guy.

Despite the link to a judge, it wasn’t enough to save Paul from being booted out of the BBC dancing competition on Sunday.

Once more, both Paul and JB showcased their acts – Paul and Karen danced the Samba rhythmically to “Car Wash” by Rose Royce.

Then, JB and his partner Amy, 34, performed their Jive to Hey Ya! by Outkast.

Following their second dance, the judges announced their decisions, deciding to keep JB and Amy in the competition. Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton made this choice.

With three votes for JB and Amy, those two candidates secured a majority, which meant that Paul and Karen were eliminated from the competition.

Head Judge Shirley Ballas also agreed and said she would have decided to save JB and Amy.

Responding to Tess Daly’s question about their experience on the show, Paul expressed that it had been fantastic. To anyone he speaks with, he recommends participating in this show wholeheartedly, as it’s truly extraordinary for everyone involved.

‘There’s a Tottenham fan over there called Lincoln and even he’s nice!

‘It’s been amazing, honestly, amazing. I loved every minute of it, I’ve had a great teacher.

“She’s just fantastic, truly fantastic! I wouldn’t ask for any other coach. Every moment with her has been delightful.” (Informal)

I can dance now, which means I’ve achieved something great – before, I couldn’t dance at all, but now I can do it to some extent. This is an extra advantage, a fantastic added benefit for me.

Afterwards, Karen kindly commented: ‘Of course, you’ve been delightful. I’ve hardly laughed this much. My stomach muscles are quite stiff now. I am incredibly proud of you. Each time you’ve joined us, you’ve grown better.’

As a devoted fan, let me express my gratitude for being the essence that makes Strictly shine. Your infectious energy and ability to bring endless joy have touched many, proving that with a sprinkle of effort and plenty of laughter, anything is possible.

On Sundays, the competition included a dance routine by the skilled professionals, where Nancy Xu and Dianne Buswell captivated everyone with an intense Paso Doble performance.

Under the choreography of Oti Mabuse, the performance took place at a bustling cantina along a sun-scorched highway in the South, set to the tune of “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” by Santa Esmeralda.

Additionally, Sophie Ellis-Bextor gave a live rendition of her latest single titled “Freedom Of The Night”.

The remaining 11 couples will take to the dancefloor next week for the Halloween Special.

On Saturday, October 26 at 6:25 pm, we’ll be back with our scheduled program, and you can catch the results on Sunday at 7:20 pm on both BBC One and iPlayer.

Both of this weekend’s episodes are available to watch now via BBC iPlayer.
