The BBC is launching a new crime drama called The Northumbria Mysteries. The show, directed by Gordon Anderson and Duncan Foster, features Robson Green, known for his role in Grantchester, as one of the main characters.
The new show features an unexpected pair who team up to solve crimes. It’s part of a larger BBC effort to invest in and create more content in the North East of England, demonstrating their ongoing support for the region.
BBC production is returning to the North East with The Northumbria Mysteries, a new series filmed along the beautiful Northumberland coast and in the nearby market towns.
Glynn Turman will portray Joe Ruby, a complex character defined by his past errors, disappointments, and chances he didn’t take.
The actor who will play DI Rose O’Connell, a partner to the main character, hasn’t been announced yet. Rose is an Oxford graduate and is described as highly intelligent, thoughtful, and remarkably calm under pressure.

Lesley Douglas, from Lonesome Pine Productions, expressed her excitement about Robson Green starring as Joe Ruby, set against the beautiful scenery of Northumberland. She described the collaboration with the BBC to bring these characters to the screen as a truly rewarding experience.
The new series will start filming in Northumberland this spring. It will have eight episodes, each lasting 45 minutes, and will be shown on BBC One and iPlayer. The exact air date hasn’t been announced yet.
