Skeleton Crew reveals homage to Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure

As someone who grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy, this news about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has me absolutely buzzing! I can still remember the magic of those old puppets, and hearing that they’re making a comeback fills me with pure nostalgic joy.

To be honest, I might seem a bit traditional, but the announcement about “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” has genuinely sparked my excitement. I’m all geared up for the comeback of some classic puppetry in Star Wars!

During a conversation with Empire Online, director David Lowery revealed an unexpected character set to feature in his episode of Skeleton Crew: specifically, Teek from the 1984 television film Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure will make an appearance.

Lowery shared, “I was thrilled about using hand puppets on set because it’s an ancient technology merged with modern technology at once. It was truly enchanting! One character in my episode is the Teek from Battle For Endor, who’s just a small hand puppet. I wondered if he would be digitally enhanced or replaced. But in the final episode, there he was – a hand puppet amidst this high-tech Volume set. The contrast of these two elements together, right before my eyes, was mind-blowing.

It’s worth mentioning that Lowery refers to the character as “the Teek,” rather than simply “Teek.” Given this, it seems plausible that we are dealing with a member of the Teek species, not necessarily the character Teek from the movie itself.

Still, this news is incredibly exciting. I’m always here for practical effects, and hearing the series will blend them together with cutting-edge technology, that’s incredibly exciting for me. I’m also a sucker for puppets! I love a puppet in Star Wars.

As a dedicated Star Wars fan, I can’t help but get excited as we approach a significant milestone! It’s hard to believe that “Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure” will be turning 40 in November. With “Skeleton Crew” set to release the following month, it feels like the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the beloved character, Teek, back into the Star Wars universe!

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew arrives on Disney+ on December 3.
