Jason Blum says they're "working on the script" for the Dead by Daylight movie

As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the thrilling world of “Dead by Daylight“, I was absolutely elated to hear Jason Blum’s update at New York Comic Con 2024. The anticipation for this movie adaptation has been palpable since its announcement back in March 2023, and finally getting a glimpse into the creative process is like finding a rare survivor’s emblem in a game of “Dead by Daylight”.

2024’s New York Comic Con has wrapped up, leaving us all buzzing about the latest announcements made at this much-loved event. One announcement that particularly caught our attention was an update from Jason Blum regarding the forthcoming “Dead by Daylight” movie. He shared some insights into the progress of the project’s creative team in terms of filmmaking, and we think it looks promising!

News about a “Dead by Daylight” movie initially surfaced in March 2023, with James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse joining forces with Behaviour Interactive to develop a feature film based on the well-known horror multiplayer video game. Back then, it was disclosed that they were on the lookout for a director and scriptwriter for the project.

As a fervent admirer, I learned that Wan, Blum, and Stephen Mulrooney were instrumental in bringing this film to life, while Remi Racine, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Ryan Turek, and Russell Binder served as executive producers. Yet, since the movie’s announcement, it’s been rather quiet on the production front.

Hey there fellow gamers! I’ve just got some exciting news about our beloved game, Dead by Daylight. At New York Comic Con 2024, I managed to grab a chat with film producer Jason Blum, and guess what? He confirmed that the movie adaptation is still on track! Can you imagine seeing our favorite horror survival game come to life on the big screen? I can hardly wait!

The individual shared with a news outlet that him, along with the movie’s creative crew, are at present developing the screenplay.

You know, we don’t put movies in the calendar until we have the right script. I hope we get a script that we love. We’re working on a script, but it could be five years, it could be 12 months. You just don’t know. You can’t make the movie until the script is right, and you don’t know how long that’ll take.

Afterward, he drew a parallel between the movie-making technique of the “Dead by Daylight” production and a Blumhouse film, titled “Five Nights at Freddy’s”. A noticeable time gap occurred between when the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film adaptation was announced and its eventual theater release.

Blum shared with Comicbook that he thinks the success of the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie came from the extensive effort put into its creation by him and his team. He believes that because they dedicated significant time to refining and perfecting “Five Nights at Freddy’s”, it turned out to be a well-crafted horror film, which ultimately proved popular with audiences.

It took 10 years to make Five Nights at Freddy’s, and I think one of the reasons the movie worked is because we spent 10 years trying to get it right.

As a die-hard fan of “Dead by Daylight,” I’ve got to admit that Blum might be onto something. We’re all eagerly waiting for the big screen adaptation, but we’d rather see it take its time and become flawless rather than rushing it out and ending up with a subpar or average movie.

As a gamer, I find myself immersed in the intense world of “Dead by Daylight,” where four of us, the Survivors, face off against one formidable opponent, the Killer. The Killer’s mission is to track us down, while our goal is to collaborate, evade capture, and repair generators that ultimately unlock the exit gates for a swift escape.
