Woman of the Hour star didn’t expect to be cast due to limb difference
As a gamer with a soft spot for gripping thrillers and a keen interest in behind-the-scenes tales, I was absolutely captivated by Autumn Best’s journey to bag the role in Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, “Woman of the Hour.
Autumn Best, a star from the show “Woman of the Hour,” was surprised when she got the significant part in Anna Kendrick’s first directorial project.
Previously known for his role in the sci-fi series “The 4400”, this actor now takes on the character of teen Amy in a Netflix thriller that draws inspiration from the chilling real-life killing spree of serial killer Rodney Alcala, played by Daniel Zovatto from “Station Eleven”.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the movie, Best revealed that she initially didn’t have much faith she’d win the role because of her physical condition involving a missing limb.
In response to receiving the email, I thought, “It seems unlikely that I will be chosen for the role in this Anna Kendrick film. Not just because it features Anna Kendrick, who is admirable, but also due to the fact that I have only one hand,” Best explained to Variety.
She stated, “Each time I receive an audition for a role based on a true story, I dismiss it right away. This is because I believe that no director or producer would consider me suitable to play someone without a limb difference in reality.
After her performance at the audition, Best’s representative contacted her to share that Kendrick had been pleased with her act and proposed a conversation about the role via a Zoom video call.
At the coffee shop where I was working, I received a call. Therefore, I exclaimed, “Give me a moment to step outside,” before adding, “This is incredibly thrilling!
While collaborating with Kendrick, who portrayed Cheryl Bradshaw in the film, Best found themselves growing exceptionally close and formed a strong friendship, which they referred to as becoming “good friends” or “close pals” during production.
Best explained, “She seems to have a knack for sensing when I’m feeling drained, chilly, or just out of sorts mentally.
The film, penned by Ian McDonald, details the murders committed by Alcala and his appearance on the television program “The Dating Game” back in 1978.
