The Office star Jenna Fischer reveals Christina Applegate’s ‘salty’ reaction to her breast cancer diagnosis
I truly admire Jenna Fischer for her courage and resilience in facing breast cancer head-on. Her journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and her ability to find gratitude even amidst hardship is inspiring. It’s heartening to see how she has leaned on her support network, including fellow survivors, during this challenging time.
Actress Jenna Fischer, well-known for her role in The Office, has shared insights about the crucial support she received from friend and fellow celeb, Christina Applegate, after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
After only a week since the 50-year-old star bravely announced her Stage 1 Triple Positive breast cancer, calling it “aggressive yet manageable,” I couldn’t help but delve deeper into her journey. Now, she’s shared insights about her treatment plan and the incredible support system that surrounds her.
During an interview with Hoda Kotb on The Today Show, the well-known figure from Hollywood revealed that 52-year-old Christina, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2021, provided comfort to her.
Following her diagnosis, Jenna disclosed that she found solace in her friend who maintained she “was certain” she had cancer.
Jenna explained the emotional rollercoaster she experienced when she learned about needing chemotherapy, and how Christina supported her through it in a tangible way.
The actress revealed that she went for her annual mammogram in October 2023.
She informed Hoda, “Three weeks passed before they reported, ‘Your mammogram appears to be okay, but there were some areas that were hard to distinguish.’
Your breast tissue is quite compact. It might be beneficial for you to have another mammography exam, possibly followed by a breast ultrasound as well.
At the time, Jenna admitted that she felt ‘no level of concern.’
After her ultrasound examination, doctors suggested that the well-known actress should consider having a biopsy since they mentioned that there was approximately a 10% likelihood that it might be cancerous.
She noted: ‘During our hike, I glanced at the portal, and it was then that I encountered phrases such as ‘invasive’, ‘ductal’, ‘carcinoma’, and ‘malignant’. It occurred to me that these terms seemed related to cancer.’
After receiving the message from the portal, Jenna called her husband, Lee Kirk, to share the news. She mentioned that while she wasn’t completely certain, it seemed like it might be cancer.
She revealed that she was in ‘disbelief’ before opening up about her support system.
The actress expressed that a particular term truly shocked her, and that moment came when she learned she was triple-positive and her doctor suggested chemotherapy. It was then that she completely broke down.
Jenna admitted that Christina was one of the first people she told about the situation.
She shared with the media, “When I phoned her, she picked up. She asked, ‘Which one is it?’ To which I replied, ‘Breast cancer.’ Her response was, ‘I knew it.’
‘She’s salty. Salty language that one. I love her for it.’
In addition, The Office actor mentioned that Christina facilitated connections between him/her and several other individuals who had experienced breast cancer.
Later on, she disclosed that she and Lee had an open discussion with their kids, Weston Lee (13 years old) and Harper Marie (10 years old), about the news in a sincere manner.
The actress openly acknowledged that her medical journey, involving chemotherapy, lumpectomy, and radiation, has made her more appreciative of minor inconveniences such as traffic jams.
Jenna, currently in remission from cancer, attributed her recovery to an early diagnosis, emphasizing the importance for other women to schedule their checkups promptly.
Approximately a week and a half since Jenna Fischer announced her breast cancer diagnosis, she is now sharing her experiences, treatment details, and mindset transformation in an interview with Hoda Kotb from TODAY. ❤️

She told the outlet: ‘If I had waited six more months, it could have been much worse. It could have spread. It was a very aggressive form of cancer.
I’m incredibly fortunate because the cancer didn’t advance into my lymph nodes, and it also didn’t spread anywhere else within my body.
‘My tumor was incredibly tiny, not big enough to be noticed through self-examination. In fact, it would have gone undetected without the routine mammogram. I am deeply thankful that I attended that appointment and got everything started.’
Last week, Jenna shared a candid photo of herself with shorter hair after undergoing chemotherapy treatment – and implored her fans to get regular mammograms.
She wrote: ‘October is breast cancer awareness month. I never thought I’d be making an announcement like this but here we are.
In the chilly month of December, I received the difficult news that I was battling Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. Following my journey through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, I’m elated to share that today, I stand triumphant over cancer. I am now proudly cancer-free.
Jenna is married to Lee and the pair share a son Weston Lee, 13, and daughter, Harper Marie, 10.
She is best recognized for portraying Pam Beesby in the television series The Office, from 2005 to 2013. During this period, John Krasinski took on the role of her romantic interest Jim Alpert. On the NBC program, their characters tied the knot, leading to an enormous fan base.
