Aya Cash promises The Boys spinoff Vought Rising is shaping up to be "insanely good"

As a die-hard fan who has been following The Boys since its inception, I must say I’m both thrilled and slightly apprehensive about the expanding universe of this subversive superhero series. The upcoming spinoffs promise to delve deeper into the corrupt world of Vought and its morally questionable characters, something that has always kept me hooked.

At present, we find ourselves waiting for a new season of “The Boys,” Amazon Prime Video’s unconventional superhero series that presents a world where real superheroes coexist with their flawed counterparts. The fifth and concluding season of “The Boys” is expected to debut in 2026, bringing to a close the tale of the struggle between the ruthless Homelander and Billy Butcher, who harbors a near-pathological disdain for superheroes.

Amazon doesn’t plan on stopping there, though. They’ve already debuted the first season of one offshoot series titled “Gen V“, which takes place at a college where young superheroes learn to harness their abilities and dodge moral responsibility for their deeds. Additionally, they’re working on a Spanish-speaking spinoff called “The Boys: Mexico“.

To wrap it up, we have “Vought Rising“, a prequel series that delves into the origins of Vought, the powerful corporation behind both our beloved and detested superheroes in “The Boys”. The narrative of “Vought Rising” centers around two characters from the initial series: Soldier Boy, portrayed by Jensen Ackles as a weary war veteran; and Stormfront, played by Aya Cash as a Nazi. Despite their morally questionable backgrounds, “The Boys” has always been known for its satirical, politically charged storytelling. While they are central characters, rest assured that they will not be portrayed as heroes in any traditional sense.

When asked by ComicBook, Cash shared that it’s uncertain when filming for Vought Rising will start, but she’s thrilled about the series based on what she’s seen so far. “I’ve gone through two scripts, and they are mind-blowingly excellent,” she said, “But I can’t reveal much more than that.

Can The Boys sustain so many spinoffs?

So far, the emerging “Boys Cinematic Universe” has been quite successful with its offerings. The initial series has maintained a strong consistency that audiences appreciate, and they’ve taken a liking to the spinoff called “Gen V”. Even the animated spinoff, titled “Diabolical”, was quite enjoyable too.

Despite my excitement, I always feel a bit anxious when a production house invests heavily into a franchise. For instance, “The Boys” premiered in 2019, and now we have two spinoffs available, with another two in development. The question is: does the audience’s enthusiasm maintain this level of expansion, or will it crumble under its own momentum?

So far, so good, but there are some instances even within Amazon that serve as warnings. The concept of creating a foreign-language spinoff like “The Boys: Mexico” is similar to the Italian-language series “Citadel: Diana,” which debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2023, spun off from the spy drama “Citadel.” Despite Amazon reportedly investing $300 million into the original “Citadel” and not many people watching it when it aired on Prime Video, the spinoff is still moving forward. This could be due to the dedication of creators Joe and Anthony Russo to keep things going, as it’s difficult to halt a project once it’s already in motion.

While the spin-off series have an advantage due to their connection with the popular original, it’s essential to remain vigilant about their success. As each spin-off premieres, we’ll keep a close eye on their performance, and without a doubt, we can’t wait for the fifth and final season of the original show.
