Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne announces band’s final concert at Hyde Park following the death of keyboardist Richard Tandy
As a lifestyle expert with a profound appreciation for music, I find myself deeply moved by Jeff Lynne’s announcement of Electric Light Orchestra’s final concert at BST Hyde Park 2025. Having been a part of the music industry for over five decades, it’s not often that we get to witness the grand finale of such iconic bands.
Jeff Lynne has declared that Electric Light Orchestra is set to perform their last concert at BST Hyde Park in the year 2025.
In 1970, the musician (aged 76) helped establish his band along with Roy Wood and Bev Bevan in Birmingham. He’s announced that their main performance scheduled for the following summer will mark their final concert together.
Speaking to The Times on Sunday, he said: ‘My return to touring began at Hyde Park in 2014. It seems like the perfect place to do our final show.
We’re thrilled beyond belief to spend this extraordinary evening in London with our UK supporters. Just like the lyrics say, we’re ready to do it again: “One More Time!
Jeff has had the longest tenure with the band that has undergone multiple transformations throughout its history.
In 1986, he broke up the band, leading drummer Bev to establish ELO Part II, eventually recognized as The Orchestra.
After a short get-together in 2000, Jeff eventually regrouped the band under the name Jeff Lynne’s ELO, with the original keyboardist Richard Tandy joining him once more.
Richard had joined ELO as a bassist in 1972 before becoming the band’s full-time keyboardist.
Unfortunately, he had an untimely demise earlier this year at the age of 76. Jeff shared the sad news in May.
In a heartfelt message, I’m sorrowfully announcing the loss of my cherished partner in creativity and dearest friend, Richard Tandy, who has journeyed on.
‘He was a remarkable musician & friend and I’ll cherish the lifetime of memories we had together. Sending all my love to Sheila & the Tandy Family.’
During their first 13 years together, the band ELO achieved global success by selling more than 50 million records. In 2017, its members Jeff, Richard, Roy, and Bev were honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
One of their most famous and distinctive songs is “Mr. Blue Sky,” which was debuted in 1978 as part of their seventh studio album titled “Out of the Blue.
This tune is often played in popular media outlets, featuring in movies and TV series like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Who, as well as at both the start and finish of the 2012 Summer Olympics’ ceremonies.
Jeff composed and arranged the track, sharing with Rolling Stone that it might be his most recognized piece.
People keep giving me various accounts about it. Surprisingly, it also has an enchanting allure for children because it resembles a lullaby.
Pondering the origins of the smash-hit, he shared: “I recall jotting down the lyrics. It was at a cabin nestled amidst the Swiss Alps, shrouded in fog and mist.
For the initial four days, I was unable to catch a glimpse of the sprawling countryside. However, eventually, the scene opened up, revealing an endless expanse, and the sky above shimmered a beautiful blue.
