Stranger Things star says final episode had cast “uncontrollably crying”

As a gamer who’s been through countless adventures and emotional rollercoasters in virtual worlds, I can only imagine the raw feelings that the cast of Stranger Things must have experienced during their table read for the final season. The bond they share, forged over years of battling demogorgons and Russian spies, is akin to the unbreakable bonds formed by fellow gamers in epic quests.

According to David Harbour, who plays a character on Stranger Things, the final episode left the entire cast in tears they couldn’t hold back.

In the upcoming year, the fifth and last season will debut on our streaming platform, and not too long ago, the cast attended a rehearsal session (a gathering where they all read the script together to ensure smooth dialogue flow and identify any necessary adjustments prior to recording). During this reading, feelings ran high.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor portraying Jim Hopper shared that as they were merely reading the final scene of the episode: “About halfway through, people began shedding tears.

“Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people.”

Harbor pointed out that the length of time the cast had known each other played a role in their dynamic, stating that for young talents like Millie Bobby Brown and Gaten Matarazzo, it felt more like they were reliving their childhood.

“They started the show when they were 11 and 12, and here we are reading [this finale],” he said.

The actor noted that Noah Schnapp appeared to be the most deeply affected among the entire cast during the table reading. He even mimicked how Noah might have cried in that situation.

He thinks fans will be equally moved by the finale, stating: “It’s so well done and so beautiful. They land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done… It’s such a great episode, and it’s such a great season. You guys will love it.”

Stream Stranger Things seasons 1-4 on Netflix, as the fifth and concluding season is currently being produced.
