As an ardent fan of celebrity culture and photography, I can hardly contain my excitement upon laying eyes on the stunning compilation, Jonathan Becker: Lost Time. This magnificent tome transports me back through the decades, offering a rare glimpse into the lives of the stars we’ve come to know and love, through the lens of one of the most celebrated photographers of our time.

One of the well-known actors from the last fifty years, Tom Cruise, will appear alongside other prominent figures in a fresh photobook that highlights famous personalities through captivating photography.

In the book “Jonathan Becker: Lost Time”, edited by Mark Holborn and published by Phaidon, Becker provides a collection of unguarded instances and deliberately crafted images featuring celebrities, nobility, and artistic figures.

In the ’80s, Becker kicked off his career at Vanity Fair, subsequently gracing numerous fashion publications for the subsequent five decades.

One of the striking snaps includes Cruise, 62, sharing a moment with his Jerry Maguire costar Cuba Gooding Jr., 56, as they reconnect in London in 2015, years after Gooding’s Oscar win for the 1996 film.

Another insightful snap shows Cruise and his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, 57, inside the Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2000.

As a devoted admirer, I embarked upon an enchanting evening finding myself recognized as a nominee for my captivating performance in the gripping drama “Magnolia”. However, it was none other than Kevin Spacey who took home the prestigious Academy Award that night, his exceptional work on “American Beauty” proving triumphant.

In that golden gown, Kidman continued to captivate at the event, just as she did during previous ceremonies. Yet, amidst California’s prohibition of public smoking, Becker managed to spot her, engrossed in a cigarette break, within the Vanity Fair tent.

The actress says she has since kicked the habit.

Among the gathering is an unposed, monochrome snapshot featuring the deceased artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat, captured at a function held at the Brooklyn Academy of Arts.

In 1985, a photograph was captured, exactly three years before the neo-expressionist artist died of a heroin overdose, marking an unfortunate end to his thriving career.

Renowned heiress and fashion designer, Gloria Vanderbilt, exudes an air of royalty yet comfort while posing for a painting session in her Manhattan residence.

In this formal setting, instead of addressing the camera head-on like one typically would, I find myself transformed into a thoughtful Red Queen, perched comfortably on a crimson throne, nestled by the warm glow of my vibrant red and verdant green hearth.

In this portrait, which is a complete image of Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt – the mother of the jeans manufacturer – it appears as if she is gazing at her daughter from behind.

Back in 2001, I felt like an invisibly fluttering wing, snapping shots at the royal feast unfolding within the hallowed walls of Buckingham Palace. There, amidst the grandeur, sat none other than Prince Charles, a distinguished 75 years old, and his esteemed partner, Camilla Parker-Bowles.

In this scene, the royal figure is involved in a conversation with a woman seated to his immediate right, meanwhile, Parker-Bowles, who later married the future king in 2005, is engrossed in a separate conversation with another guest, sitting diagonally opposite him at the table.

This book, edited by Mark Holborn, features an array of photos showcasing celebrities like Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein, Léa Seydoux, Frank Sinatra, Gloria Vanderbilt, Peter Beard, Fran Lebowitz, Arthur Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cindy Sherman, André Leon Talley, Gore Vidal, Diana Vreeland, and David Bowie, along with several others.

Jonathan Becker: Lost Time is available in bookstores and online.
