5 horror movies still to come in final months of 2024

As a die-hard horror fan with a heart that skips a beat for all things spooky, I am beyond excited about the upcoming horror releases this season! The anticipation of Halloween might fade away, but fear not, my fellow horror enthusiasts, for we have plenty to look forward to in the coming months. From the chilling “Heretic” and the eerie “Nosferatu” to the comedic chaos of “Y2K”, there’s something for everyone in this thrilling lineup!

Although we cherish Halloween, a tiny drop of festive spirit seems to vanish when October 31st passes by. While Christmas is wonderful, it simply can’t replace the thrill of the eerie and enchanting vibe that comes with the spooky season.

Fortunately, horror enthusiasts can rest easy knowing there’s an abundance of chilling content on the horizon even beyond November and December. Highly anticipated horror movies like “Heretic” and “Nosferatu” are still scheduled for release! Moreover, while “Terrifier 3” was already out in October, given its Christmas-themed setting, it’s likely that you’ll be able to stream it digitally before the holiday season or perhaps catch a special theatrical re-release around Christmas.

Here are five horror movies you can look forward to seeing before the year is over!

Heretic (Nov. 8)

Similar to numerous films on this roster, “Heretic” is another motion picture that debuted at a film festival earlier this year. It’s been creating quite a stir, with critics lauding it as a creative thriller driven by exceptional performances from its cast, featuring Hugh Grant at his most menacing, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East. The latter two portray a duo of Mormon missionaries who inadvertently cross paths with Mr. Reed (Grant), leading them into a harrowing predicament.

Nightbitch (Dec. 6)

In the comedy-horror movie adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s book, titled “Nightbitch,” Amy Adams reprises her role as the leading actress. Directed and written by Marielle Heller, who previously worked on “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” the film centers around a mother facing financial difficulties at home, who begins to suspect that she’s undergoing a transformation into a canine. Although its initial trailer sparked varying opinions, “Nightbitch” debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and received more favorable reviews from critics.

Y2K (Dec. 6)

The newest film by A24 bears a resemblance to “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” but with a twist: instead of a contemporary setting, it’s set on New Year’s Eve 1999, amidst the widespread Y2K fear and technological anxiety. This film combines horror and humor, as a software bug causes all technology to become active and cause chaos at a wild party. Notably, “Y2K” is Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut; he is a comedian who was once part of the “Saturday Night Live” cast.

Get Away (Dec. 6)

Following its premiere at Fantastic Fest, Nick Frost’s humorous slasher movie titled “Get Away” is set to hit cinemas courtesy of IFC Films, before it arrives on Shudder sometime in the next year. As the name implies, the plot revolves around a family embarking on a leisurely vacation, or “getaway,” unaware that they’ve chosen an island where a serial killer is active.

Nosferatu (Dec. 25)

The eagerly awaited reimagining by Robert Eggers (known for ‘The Witch’, ‘The Lighthouse’) of the 1922 German classic, ‘Nosferatu’, is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day this year. In this chilling gothic narrative, Bill SkarsgĂ„rd portrays the ominous Count Orlok who finds himself captivated by a young woman, while Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Emma Corrin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson also star. With its intricate plot and stellar cast, ‘Nosferatu’ is one of the most anticipated films this winter season and should not be missed.
