As a dedicated follower of Hollywood, I have had the privilege to witness the growth and transformation of many talented actors over the years. However, few have captured my heart quite like Chris Pratt. His latest project, The Electric State, is yet another testament to his versatility as an actor.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share the inside scoop: It turns out that my signing up for the upcoming movie, “The Electric State,” alongside the extraordinary Millie Bobby Brown, required a nod from my beloved wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger.

During a panel discussion at New York Comic Con on Thursday, Chris, aged 45, shared: “Initially, I planned to take some time off at home, but then I stumbled upon this script, and it sparked an instant reaction of ‘oh no, I suppose I must do this film’. It was simply too good, and chances like this don’t present themselves frequently.

The actor from Guardians of the Galaxy expressed that the movie carries significant and relevant themes about technology and humanity for our current times. He emphasized its uniqueness, stating that when opportunities like these arise, one simply must seize them.

Chris mentioned that he also had his wife review it, and she suggested he take on the movie role. After obtaining approval from his mother, he joined the cast, which included his co-star Millie (who is 20 years old) and the Russo Brothers, who directed the sci-fi adventure film.

In the movie, Chris takes on the quirky character of drifter Keats, while Millie, captivating in a silver jumpsuit at Comic Con, embodies Michelle – an orphaned teen exploring the American West alongside a friendly yet enigmatic robot, both seeking Michelle’s lost younger brother.

Chris stated, “This is incredibly unique, it represents a significant leap, and I felt that this could potentially be… perhaps one of the final chances for me to star in such a large production. So, I must regard each opportunity of this nature carefully.

‘It was just such a great story, I was moved to tears reading it, and you’ll be when you get to see the movie. You’ll see it’s incredible story, it’s so beautiful, it’s so original,’ he added, before going on to praise Millie.

Chris shared that they first crossed paths at the Kids’ Choice Awards when she was quite young. From that instant encounter, he recalls her as being incredibly kind, naive in a good way, and untainted.

Without a doubt, I’m thoroughly enthralled by Stranger Things, and I’ve been captivated by her diverse portfolio. It’s truly exhilarating to witness her rise to fame, her dominance, and her command over the industry. Consequently, collaborating with her was an opportunity I eagerly anticipated.

Speaking about Millie and her spouse Jake Bongiovi, who was always present, Chris expressed: “They’re simply incredible, ordinary individuals leading extraordinary lives, and their authenticity resonates with me as I share similar feelings.

Thus, we truly enjoyed ourselves and quickly formed a strong bond. I must warn you, this friendship seems to be quite lasting, my apologies for any inconvenience!” (The Parks and Recreation star commented.)

Millie responded with a smile, expressing her genuine happiness at having you as a friend. However, she confessed that when she initially stepped onto the set of The Electric State, she felt a bit overwhelmed.

She admitted that she found the situation daunting, given that she was only 19 years old, required to be there, and expected to deliver 50%. Looking back, she remembered feeling intimated.

Then Chris strolls onto the stage, greeting me warmly with a hearty “Hey,” as if we were old friends, instantly making me feel understood and cherished. Instantly, there was a strong connection.

The Stranger Things actor mentioned that each take he made would make me laugh. He believes that such a positive, vibrant energy in any workplace, especially on set, fosters an atmosphere of trust, affection, and camaraderie. This, he thinks, is what we see on screen and is quite unique and hard to find.

Millie shared that she drew inspiration for her character Michelle from ’90s Drew Barrymore, mentioning that she may have approached the role with a bit of confidence more than usual. Furthermore, she stated that the film provided her with a significant acting challenge.

The Electric State arrives on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
