Diego Luna promises Star Wars: Andor season 2 is “really powerful,” which we expect
As a die-hard Star Wars fan who’s been through more than a few intergalactic battles, I can confidently say that Andor has undeniably shaken up the galaxy far, far away. The first season was a refreshing change of pace, diving deep into the gritty, grown-up world of the Empire and the rebels on its outskirts. It’s not your average family-friendly Star Wars, but it’s a welcome addition to the canon that keeps me eagerly waiting for more.
In an unprecedented manner, the initial installment of “Andor” surpassed all expectations for a “Star Wars” TV series or film, presenting a thoughtful, adult narrative that delved into the oppressive bureaucracy of the Empire and the sacrifices made by rebels on the fringe. Although I appreciate the traditional lighter, family-oriented approach of “Star Wars,” “Andor” offered a fresh, captivating twist that left viewers eager for more, anticipating the show’s second and concluding season.
Star Diego Luna, portraying the character Cassian Andor who transforms from a selfish loner to a rebel, shared some exciting news about an upcoming series. He told Radio Times that while he can’t reveal much about it, the project is definitely on its way and promises to be fantastic. Tony Gilroy’s writing is particularly compelling, he added. Luna expressed eagerness for the second season, admitting that this job has taught him more than any other about the virtue of patience.
Fans are all too familiar with that sensation: the season finale of “Andor” aired back in November 2022, so when season 2 eventually premieres in 2025, they’ll have been yearning for it for over two years. Prolonged gaps between seasons can be a persistent annoyance for TV enthusiasts, but “Andor” is one of those exceptional shows that was strong and daring enough in its first season that fans are willing to endure the wait for the second. What makes it easier is knowing that this is also the final season, meaning we won’t have to bear another long wait again. While other “Star Wars” shows have emerged since then, nothing has managed to quell the craving for “Andor”.
As for the release date of season 2 for Andor, it hasn’t been announced yet, but we can certainly look forward to hearing about it soon, which should ease some tension among fans and also provide a bit of breathing room for Luna during interviews, as he won’t be constantly asked about it. In fact, Luna recently spoke with Radio Times to discuss his upcoming Spanish-language series La Máquina, where he portrays an aging boxer. You can watch La Máquina right now on Hulu.
