Cyndi Lauper finally reveals the truth about her ‘feud’ with Madonna
As a die-hard fan of both Cyndi Lauper and Madonna, I’ve always been captivated by the tales of their supposed four-decade-long feud. However, after reading this article, my heart swells with joy as it seems that the entire saga was nothing more than sensationalized gossip!
For several decades, there has been a widely accepted notion that two popular singers who became famous in the 1980s have been engaged in a lengthy and ongoing rivalry spanning over four decades.
66-year-old Madonna and 71-year-old Cyndi Lauper have never had a feud, contrary to longstanding speculation about their relationship.
In response to seeing her perform ‘Like a Prayer’, the singer of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (who experienced some sound troubles during her performance at Glastonbury) expressed, “Wow, that’s amazing! I absolutely adore her!” And ever since then, I have continued to cherish her.
‘In the ’80s, they started to pit women against each other,’ she said.
In my perspective as a lifestyle advisor, I must clarify that the notion of women competing against one another and being urged to revert to their previous roles predates the 1960s, long before the women’s liberation movement gained traction.
In the ’80s, I was an ardent admirer who couldn’t get enough of those two divine voices that ruled the pop music scene. They left an indelible mark on my heart with their timeless tunes that still resonate to this day.
They have each won multiple Grammys and were trailblazers in the early days of MTV.
1983 saw the beginnings of a buzz surrounding Madonna, sparked by the release of her self-titled debut album. With catchy tracks like Holiday, Borderline, and Dress You Up, Madge quickly became a household name and a superstar.
1983 saw Lauper launching her debut album titled “She’s So Unusual.” The tracks Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, She-Bop, and Time After Time catapulted her into being widely popular on the radio and MTV.
The two ladies had vibrant, eye-catching characters and unconventional fashion styles. Due to their mutual eccentricity, whispers arose suggesting they didn’t get along.
But the Madonna beef, she says, was simply made up, citing her appreciation for Like a Prayer.
She expressed, in conversation with The Guardian earlier this year, something along the lines of: “It seems as though there can only be one successful woman. What an absurd notion!
For quite some time now, that lady has kept us amused with her performances. She’s crafted fantastic pop tunes that I admire. However, I don’t wish for competition in a way that places me against another woman. That’s just not my style.
Cyndi is preparing for her final “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” tour, and she’s spilling the beans about what kept her successful in the music business for so long.
‘I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. It’s very boring,’ she said, despite her wild child aesthetic.
‘But because I was a singer, I had to watch out for my voice,’ she explained.
She mentioned that she’s never felt drawn to drugs, explaining instead, “When you’re performing and everything’s going smoothly, it already transports you to another world.
