Comedian Wil Anderson reveals the joke that sparked his very surprising feud with late star Heath Ledger

As someone who has spent decades navigating the often unpredictable waters of the entertainment industry, I find myself reflecting on my encounters with fellow celebrities and their responses to my humor. One such memory that stands out is my interaction with Heath Ledger, a man whose talent and charm were undeniable, even if his sense of humor was somewhat elusive.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently found myself reflecting on an amusing anecdote from my past involving the talented Heath Ledger. On one occasion, I shared a playful jest with him that unexpectedly ignited what seemed like a friendly banter – or so it appeared at the time.

50-year-old comedian shared a past event during an appearance on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa, joined by Kate Ritchie. He revealed that the occurrence happened in 2003 while interviewing Ledger on Triple J.

Wil said, “Right after Heath completed the film about Ned Kelly, he visited our studio, and it felt as if he’d been held captive somewhere.

Wil mentioned that Heath appeared disinterested during the interview, so he attempted to lift the atmosphere by telling a joke.

Unfortunately, Wil’s attempt at being funny did not go down well with The Dark Knight star.

He was almost ready for a brief, single-word response interview. I’ve never felt less excited or eager about participating in a radio interview.

I figured I might as well lighten the mood with a small jest since he’s delivering a profound, dramatic monologue about his quest to comprehend the torment of Ned Kelly.

I said, “do you reckon it might be just because he always had really bad hat hair?”,’ Wil quipped.

Instead, Ledger found Wil’s humor unappealing and promptly reprimanded the Triple J breakfast show host.

In response to Heath saying, “Isn’t that funny?” I replied, “I didn’t catch the humor of your movie 10 Things I Hate About You twice, buddy,” although I had indeed seen it twice.

It’s uncertain whether Will had a chance to make peace with the actor before his untimely passing due to an overdose of prescription drugs in January 2008.

Throughout his career, Wil has occasionally caused friction with various famous personalities, and notably, in 2022, he barred the well-known radio host, Kyle Sandilands, from being a guest on his podcast, Wilosophy.

In 2014, he initiated Wilosophy, a podcast that has since then grown immensely in popularity across Australia, regularly hosting high-profile celebrities as guests.

Wil shared with news.com.au that he declined the opportunity to interview Sandilands, as he follows a principle of not featuring individuals who already have established platforms and personal agendas on his program.
