Terrifier 3 star breaks silence on low-budget horror demolishing Joker 2 at box office

Terrifier 3 star breaks silence on low-budget horror demolishing Joker 2 at box office

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience in the entertainment industry, I must say that the recent box office battle between Terrifier 3 and Joker: Folie à Deux has been nothing short of astonishing. The success of a low-budget independent film like Terrifier 3, which started as a small project, knocking off a big-budget production like Joker: Folie à Deux, feels akin to David defeating Goliath. It’s a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and a loyal fanbase that indie films can compete with the might of Hollywood studios.

Actor David Howard Thornton, who played a role in the movie “Terrifier 3”, recently spoke up about how the low-budget horror film outperformed the blockbuster “Joker: Madness Continues” ($200m flop) at the box office.

The grisly film – made for about $2 million – stars Thornton as homicidal clown Art who brutally murders an array of victims in stomach churning scenes – with the film knocking the starry Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga film off the top of the US box office last week.

Thornton expressed amazement at the phenomenal success of his movie, stating that the competition between his film and a larger one was reminiscent of David versus Goliath.

He told TMZ: ‘Terrifier 3 was a small lower budget independent film… I never expected this to happen in my life, I’m floored and grateful for it all.

‘We’re grateful to the fans, we have a dedicated fanbase, we weren’t beholden to the studio system.

We declined offers from studios because they aimed to undermine the authenticity of the movie, while our goal was to stay true to the desires and expectations of the audience, which were our primary concern as well.

‘This shows Hollywood that we need to start making movies that take risks again.

The actor mentioned that he hadn’t watched the critically-panned follow-up to the Joker, expressing surprise since he adored the original film. He’s eager to understand why it hasn’t resonated with audiences in the same way as the first movie.

The movie “Terrifier 3,” penned and helmed by Damien Leone, is an unrestricted gore-fest that has garnered a 78% positive review from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers have rated it as ‘popular’ and given it a strong 90% score on the popcornmeter.

The film earned $18.3 million at the box office according to The Numbers.

Finishing third in its debut was “Joker: Folie à Deux”. Despite dominating the box office in its opening weekend, it failed to recover from negative criticisms, experiencing a significant drop of 82% in ticket sales.

Despite screening in over 4,000 theaters nationwide in the U.S., the film managed to earn just $7.055 million.

Based on a report, the musical could potentially suffer losses between $150 million and $200 million during its theatrical release.

According to the report, the total cost for making and promoting the movie came close to $300 million, with around $200 million going towards production and another $100 million being allocated for marketing and distribution.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros. sources claim the number is $375 million.

A representative from Warner Bros. countered the report, stating that any speculative figures given by unidentified sources such as “insiders” or “competitors” are significantly off base, and this situation has become a pattern where unverified information is presented as verified facts.

The movie is still being shown in cinemas, with this week’s premiere in China added to the schedule, and it’s expected to generate income from both home viewings and additional releases.

To date, the musical based on Batman’s arch-nemesis has earned approximately $51.5 million within the U.S. and a total of $165 million worldwide during its first fortnight in theaters.

To put it another way, within just three days of its debut, the initial Joker movie earned approximately $96.2 million in the U.S. and an additional $248.4 million worldwide.

The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster movie that won numerous Oscars was expected to be a huge success for Warner Bros Pictures, but unfortunately, it received poor reviews from critics and underperformed at the cinema.

Joker: Folie À Deux received a record-low CinemaScore among comic book films, with dismal ticket sales on its premiere night.
