Mads Mikkelsen's Celebration appearance sparks hopes for Galen Erso in Andor Season 2

As a Star Wars enthusiast who has witnessed the epic saga unfold across galaxies and decades, I am beyond thrilled to learn that Mads Mikkelsen, the enigmatic Galen Erso from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be gracing us with his presence at Star Wars Celebration 2025! The anticipation is palpable, especially considering the possibility of Galen’s return in Andor Season 2.

As a dedicated gamer and die-hard Star Wars fan, I can’t contain my excitement! The legendary Mads Mikkelsen, known for his gripping portrayal of Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is heading to the Star Wars Celebration 2025. This epic event takes place right here in Japan next April. Can’t wait to be part of this unforgettable journey!

It has been officially confirmed that Mikkelsen will be attending next year’s celebration, along with Alan Tudyk who will reprise his role as K-2SO in ‘Andor’ Season 2. Other announced guests include Temuera Morrison, Manny Jacinto, Ashley Eckstein, Anthony Daniels, Daniel Logan, and Doug Chiang. The growing list suggests a potential comeback of Galen Erso in ‘Andor’ Season 2.

In Season 2 of Andor, it seems logical that Galen Erso might reappear, considering the last scene in Season 1 hinted at the looming presence of the Death Star, a weapon he designed unwillingly during his time as an Imperial Scientist. Much like J. Robert Oppenheimer with the atomic bomb, Erso was deeply involved with the creation of a devastating weapon, albeit under duress by Director Orson Krennic. The tragedy lies in the fact that this weapon brought about the deaths of billions, including his daughter, Jyn Erso. Yet, Erso, along with Captain Cassian Andor and their courageous Rogue One team, would later risk their lives to steal the Death Star plans from an Imperial data vault on Scarif.

Galen deliberately created a flaw within the Death Star that eventually caused its demolition. However, this catastrophe occurred after the devastation of Scarif, Jedha City, and the total obliteration of Alderaan. The first season of “Andor” adds depth to Cassian’s story, as it reveals him and his fellow prisoners at Narkina 5 were unwittingly contributing to the Death Star’s construction. This link between Cassian’s time in Narkina 5 and the Death Star’s construction was just a theory, but a post-credits scene from the “Andor” finale verified this tragic connection.

It’s been confirmed that Ben Mendelsohn will reprise his role as Director Orson Krennic in the upcoming season. This suggests that the storyline will likely explore Krennic’s relentless pursuit of completing the lethal superweapon. Given that Krennic is at the forefront, there’s a high chance we’ll see the return of Galen Erso too. Since Galen’s main reason for survival was to protect his daughter, Jyn, it’s possible that her character might reappear in Season 2 as well, although Felicity Jones has stated she won’t be returning.

Andor Season 2 premieres next year on Disney+.
