Tell Me Lies season 2 episode 8 review and ending explained: Ok, what in the world just happened in that finale?

Well, hello there fellow gamer! I reckon we’ve both been through the wringer with this Tell Me Lies season 2 finale. Now, I ain’t one to mince words, and this episode was a real rollercoaster, much like that time I tried bungee jumping in New Zealand.

Sure thing!

Stephen and Lucy in the past

Let’s delve into the repercussions of Stephen confessing his love for Lucy in episode 7. Regrettably, Lucy seems powerless against him, leading them to share a night together. Oh dear, Lucy! You were making such progress this semester, my friend. In her explanation, she immediately feels remorseful about the situation but handles it poorly. Following their encounter, she distances herself from Stephen and returns to Leo, even declaring her love for him again. Ouch. The dishonesty in this scene was hard to bear.

Despite recognizing the situation, Leo doesn’t seem to grasp it and Lucy ends up sleeping with him as well, a move she wasn’t eager about. Truthfully, her feelings for him are not sincere; instead, she feels remorseful for sleeping with Stephen. Alas, she couldn’t resist. After spending the entire day avoiding him, Stephen encounters Lucy and Leo together, leading to an outburst – albeit a subdued one, characteristic of his demeanor. With uncanny precision, he provokes Leo, knowing exactly what words to use. To be frank, it was quite gratifying watching Stephen receive such harsh blows repeatedly. Frankly, I believe he deserved more.

Despite the fact that Lucy might not have heard what Stephen said to provoke Leo and that Leo was somewhat aggressive, she still expresses concern for Stephen, stating he wasn’t retaliating properly. The situation seems to resolve itself quickly. Stephen, however, behaves oddly, smiling after being physically harmed. It’s frustrating that Lucy keeps falling for his manipulations. Regrettably, this isn’t the end of it.

Stephen and Lucy in the present

The narrative unfolds as we reach Bree and Evan’s wedding, but unfortunately, we don’t witness them walking down the aisle yet. However, it’s imminent. Prior to this joyous moment, the story takes us back to episode 6, where Lucy sent a text to Stephen asking him to meet her at the pool. Upon arrival, he discovers Lucy and her boyfriend Max engaged in an intimate moment. Stephen responds with ‘thanks for the show.’ This leads to Lucy being caught with Max, as he reads the incriminating texts. All she can muster is an explanation that she’s unsure of what’s wrong with her or why she acted in such a way.

I apologize, Lucy, but I’m just as puzzled as you are about the situation. And to make matters worse, it appears that Stephen and Lucy are involved romantically in the present, despite his engagement to Lydia. This is quite shocking! What’s even more disturbing is the uncertainty surrounding Bree’s predicament. It certainly leaves us on a cliffhanger.

Previously, Evan confessed to Stephen that the woman he had slept with and betrayed Bree was Lucy. Frankly, if Evan mustered up the bravery to speak up, it should have been to Bree, not Stephen. Honestly, I was urging him not to reveal it before he did. However, he went ahead and did so. Worse still, being the insensitive jerk that Stephen is, he recorded their conversation and sent it to Bree as she was moments away from walking down the aisle! What on earth possesses someone to do something like that?

Everyone else’s lives get more complicated

Regarding Bree, let’s rewind to our days at Baird College and delve into a rather tangled predicament that grew even more complex. It appears that Marianne was privy to Bree and Oliver’s relationship the entire time. Given their open marriage, Marianne is well-informed about all aspects of their life, including their private conversations. This situation is troubling on numerous accounts. From the outset, it seems that Bree acted inappropriately. However, this whole scenario feels strange and unnerving. To make matters worse, Oliver attempts to place blame on Bree for the predicament, as she was the one who approached him. Come on, man.

Tragically, Drew, Wrigley’s brother, lost his life after taking an overdose of the medication they shared. The weight of guilt is heavy on Wrigley’s shoulders, and I can only imagine wanting to comfort him with a warm embrace. Poor fellow, my heart goes out to him. It was last year that Lucy wrote the letter which seems to have set this unfortunate chain of events in motion. As she prepares to confess, it’s Stephen who steps up and tells Wrigley it was his fault. Remarkably, his friend forgives him swiftly. However, we all know that Stephen is only doing this to win Lucy’s favor once more, and it seems to be working.

Ultimately, it’s Diana who left an indelible impression on me during this episode, though I must admit my feelings for her remain unchanged. Following his tryst with Lucy, Stephen decides to leave Diana by packing up his belongings and ending their relationship. Despite attempting to be genuinely sincere and kind, she quickly perceives his insincerity and demands he stop pretending. The swift transition from being polite to revealing his true nature was astonishingly abrupt, and it sent a shiver down my spine.

It seems Diana isn’t overly distressed about the situation. Interestingly, her father hasn’t disowned her; instead, she orchestrated this whole incident. She even phoned in pretending her credit card was lost to make it appear as if her father was responsible. Surprisingly, she aced the LSAT. This was a strategic move to get rid of Stephen, explaining the breakup needed to originate from him, or else he might continue tormenting her as he did with Lucy. Overall, this was a clever and well-thought-out scheme that proved successful. In essence, bravo for Diana.

Wow, what an outstanding conclusion to the second season of “Tell Me Lies”! It met my expectations for sure. Overall, the season was decent, although I felt there were quite a few moments and episodes that didn’t seem essential. However, the tension reached its peak in episode 8 of this season, making me eagerly anticipate another possible season.

Despite having numerous plotlines, the episode managed to maintain an unhurried yet engaging tempo, avoiding any sense of confusion. It delivered everything you’d expect from a finale – neatly wrapping up some story arcs, leaving you eager for more, and ending on a captivating cliffhanger. Overall review: A (Excellent)
