Masterchef Australia star reveals rude diner’s ‘disgusting’ complaint about her baby: ‘I felt so ashamed’
As a dedicated fan of Laura Sharrad, I am utterly appalled and disheartened by the incident she recently experienced at a restaurant. It is truly unbelievable that in this day and age, we still have to deal with such intolerance and disregard for others, especially innocent babies like Laura’s daughter Florence Rose.
Laura Sharrad, a renowned chef from MasterChef Australia, shared an unexpected incident that occurred during a family meal out, which left her feeling both ashamed and repulsed.
The chef took to Instagram to reveal details of the incident, which occurred when she was out for breakfast with her husband Max and their daughter Florence Rose, six months.
In the twelfth season of the popular cooking show, Laura, who placed second, recounted an incident where a lone diner had concerns about baby Florence laughing, and in fact, lodged a complaint with the restaurant management.
This morning at breakfast, an individual dining alone began sighing and repetitively exclaiming “Oh, really?!” followed by murmurs of displeasure about Florence, while Florence was chuckling and playing with her toys nearby. This was described in a now-deleted Instagram post, according to The Courier Mail’s report.
She said Max confronted the disgruntled diner and pointed out that Florence wasn’t crying, but his protests appeared to fall on deaf ears as the diner then complained that Florence was ‘screaming and grunting’.
In a more polite and straightforward manner, Laura stated: “The individual in question was behaving ridiculously, making odd noises at the server while attempting an imitation of Florence. It was rather disconcerting to see such behavior from a fully grown adult, as the breakfast crowd inside the diner watched, feeling awkward at the spectacle of this seemingly misguided human.
In simpler terms, following the intense argument, a waitress subsequently approached Laura and her spouse and expressed regret over the upsetting criticism they had received.
Laura confessed that the occurrence made it difficult for her to complete her dinner, and she expressed feeling “repulsed” by the actions of the dining patron.
I couldn’t believe it – I was mortified and repulsed, all while feeling a pang of envy as I watched this person look down on Florence enjoying herself with her giraffe during our breakfast time at seven in the morning.
In 2018, Laura and Max tied the knot, having been work associates at the Orana restaurant in Adelaide since 2015. This establishment was previously managed by the esteemed chef, Jock Zonfrillo, who passed away.
She now runs Nido Bar and Pasta restaurant in Adelaide, South Australia, with fellow chef Max.
In the year 2020, Laura came very close but did not win MasterChef: Back to Win; instead, she was the runner-up to the victor, Emelia Jackson.
She was undone by her overly icy gelato dessert, which she’d accidentally left in an open freezer.
However, she was awarded $30,000 to help grow her business.
Elsewhere, Laura and Max welcomed their first child together, Florence, in April of this year.
Florence arrived just under a year following the time when Laura disclosed her heartbreaking experience with a miscarriage.
She shared a picture on Instagram featuring herself, her spouse, and their canine friend, Alfie, along with a lengthy message as a caption.

‘We are feeling very positive about the future and I’m so grateful to have Max by my side.’
