As a hardcore Game of Thrones fan with a lifetime of memories attached to this epic series, seeing the auction results from Heritage Auctions leaves me in a state of utter disbelief and longing – for a piece of Westeros history that I can call my own!
Over the weekend, Heritage Auctions concluded an auction featuring approximately 900 items from “Game of Thrones”, including props, costumes, maps, and various other items. The bidding was intense with numerous bidding wars taking place, ultimately resulting in all lots being sold. According to Heritage Auctions, the three-day event garnered a grand total of $21,115,718.
To sum it up, this auction focused on one film or TV show was the second-highest grossing auction in Heritage Auctions’ history, surpassed only by a 2011 event selling Hollywood memorabilia from Debbie Reynolds, which included iconic items like the camera George Lucas used to shoot Star Wars and garments worn by Marilyn Monroe. It seems that the allure of Hollywood remains stronger than Westeros in terms of auction success.
In total, over 32 pieces from the Game of Thrones auction sold for $100,000 or higher. Here are some examples:
- Obviously, the Iron Throne commanded the highest price: $1,490,000
- Jon Snow’s sword Longclaw was very popular. It main version of the blade sold for $400,000. Someone bought his fur ensemble worn for his trip beyond the wall in “Beyond the Wall” for $137,500, in part because it came with a lighter “action” version of Longclaw. And a rubber version sold for $106,250.
- Jon’s familiar Night’s Watch costume sold for $337,500.
- Sticking to costumes, Gregore “the Mountain” Clegane’s enormous 13-piece armor set sold for $187,500. It was the first piece to break 100k.
- Jaime Lannister’s armor went for $275,000. His Kingsugard-specific armor set, which came complete with the sword Oathkeeper, went for $212,500. And his golden prosthetic hand sold for $112,500.
- The Hound’s armor set sold for $200,000 after a lengthy bidding war. His Hound-shaped helmet sold separately for $40,000.
- Arya Stark’s outfit from when she was trying to pass as a boy, which came complete with her sword Needle, sold for $150,000.
- The armor that Oberyn Martell wore to fight against the Mountain sold for $106,250.
- The ensemble that Tyrion Lannister wore during the deadly wedding reception for his nephew Prince Joffrey wold for $100,000. A blue dublet worn by Tyrion, which also came with his Hand of the Queen pin when he was working for Daenerys Targaryen, also fetched $100,000.
- The snow-white winter look Daenerys Targaryen dons to rescue Jon Snow in “Beyond the Wall” sold for $156, 250.
- The ensemble of a White Walker general went for $162,500.
- The Lannister family litter used to carry Cersei to the Sept of Baelor sold for $118,750.
- Sticking with Cersei, the shame bell used to harrangue her through the streets of King’s Landing sold for $100,000.
- The catspaw dagger Arya Stark used to kill the Night King went for $100,000.
- The massive map of Westeros that adorned the floor of that one skylight room in the Red Keep during the last couple seasons went for $237,500. It comes in four panels.
