Silo season 2 trailer brings Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette Nichols to desolate new frontiers

As a hardcore sci-fi fan who has been through countless series with varying degrees of quality and release schedules, I can confidently say that Apple TV+’s “Silo” is rapidly becoming my favorite post-apocalyptic series to follow. The fact that they’re releasing the second season in just a little over three months from now is nothing short of astonishing – it feels like I’ve been waiting an eternity for new episodes, and yet here we are with a trailer for Season 2!

Previously, Apple TV+ introduced its highly acclaimed sci-fi series “Silo”, adapted from Hugh Howey’s bestselling novel series of the same name. The show proved to be a massive success for the streaming platform, so it’s not surprising that they’ve moved quickly to produce the sequel. The second season of “Silo” is set to premiere this November, which is remarkably quick compared to today’s television industry where seasons are often released two years apart or more.

We now have the first trailer for season 2 of “Silo”! Take a look, and let’s talk about it afterward. Keep in mind that this trailer might contain spoilers from season 1 of “Silo”.

Silo season 2 will expand the world of the series

The story unfolds on a future Earth, ravaged by some unknown apocalypse, with only 10,000 individuals surviving within an enormous subterranean shelter known as the Silo. This colossal structure is their only sanctuary as the world above has become uninhabitable. However, the reasons behind this destruction remain a puzzle, for the inhabitants of the Silo have lost touch with their past and can’t recall how they came to live underground in the first place.

Over the course of the first season, the enigmas surrounding the Silo began to unfold, yet numerous questions remain unanswered. The season finale saw Juliette Nichols (played by Rebecca Ferguson), a swiftly promoted engineer who took on the role of sheriff in the Silo, venture outside after discovering a massive cover-up about the surface world’s true nature. She anticipated that it could be more habitable than portrayed… however, upon exiting, she found herself stranded in a barren wasteland with only a finite supply of oxygen in her suit and no means to return home.

Juliette significantly influenced the inhabitants of her Silo. She was the one who ventured out beyond the bunker, survived outside its entrance, and disappeared over the hill, hidden from those observing from within. What she discovered beyond that hill held even more enigmas: there were other Silos scattered across the desolate landscape.

Season 2 appears set to continue the storylines it established, delving deeper into them. Characters such as Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins), the IT head and de facto leader of the Silo, are seen mourning Juliette’s death, but the population seems skeptical; anticipate some tension in the upcoming episodes. Meanwhile, Juliette may find herself battling not just the harsh environment, but also unraveling the mysteries of other Silos as she goes. A fleeting scene suggests that Steve Zahn, a new addition to the series, poses a threat to Juliette when she attempts to enter his Silo. As of now, we don’t know much about Zahn’s character, but it seems likely he will portray Solo, an individual whom Juliette meets in Silo 17.

For Season 2 of Silo, we have new characters joining the cast: Common portrays the IT enforcer named Robert Sims, Harriet Walter takes on the role of an agoraphobic mechanic called Martha Walker, and Iain Glen, known for his work in Game of Thrones, will play Juliette’s father, Dr. Peter Nichols.

Will Silo be the sci-fi show to break the two-year curse?

I’m thrilled beyond measure about the upcoming premiere of Silo on the big screen, and my enthusiasm is fueled not only by anticipation but also by the swiftness of its return. Silo season 1 was a top-tier television experience that spared no expense when it came to visual effects, set design, or any other aspects typical of high-budget genre productions. Remarkably, it’s coming back at a pace that outstrips many of its peers in the industry. In fact, the gap between seasons for Silo is roughly half that of Apple TV+’s other significant science fiction series, Severance, which premiered its first season in 2022 and won’t air the second until early 2025.

For some time, we’ve been expressing on our Take the Black podcast that the production house capable of churning out genre TV shows quicker than their competitors will likely reap significant benefits. It’s challenging for even the most devoted viewers to maintain interest when there’s a two-year gap between seasons – it becomes hard to remember details and sustain excitement with such a long break. Apple TV+ might have found the solution with Silo.

The second installment of the popular series “Silo” debuts on Apple TV+ on November 15th. Over the course of 10 episodes, viewers can look forward to a weekly release schedule, with the season concluding on January 17, 2025.
