Strictly's Chris McCausland reveals the secret signal he gives Dianne Buswell during the live shows

As a long-time fan of dance shows and someone who has spent countless hours watching dancers of all skill levels, I must say that Chris’ performances on Strictly Come Dancing have been nothing short of breathtaking. His ability to move with such grace and precision, despite not being able to see, is truly awe-inspiring.

As a loyal devotee, I’d like to share that Chris McCausland has unveiled the discreet signal he sends his partner, Dianne Buswell, during Strictly Come Dancing’s live broadcasts.

The comedian, aged 47, who is the first visually impaired competitor on the show, shared that he clings firmly to Dianne as they advance to the next round together.

And the reason he does this, is to give him time to gather his emotions so he doesn’t cry on TV.

‘I hug you so tight at the end so I can make sure I’m not going to cry on telly,’ he said.

Speaking candidly about the impact of the program, he mentioned, “It overwhelms me to express how emotional it makes me. The joy of survival, your enthusiasm at the finish line, and the audience’s response – it’s all a powerful mix that sometimes even causes us to blink back tears.

Each week, Dianne and Chris share updates with their audience by posting weekly video journals where they discuss their past performances and plans for the upcoming ones, outlining their preparation process.

In a video posted on Tuesday, Diane remarked, “We made it through another week,” to which Chris responded, “What was it about this week that made us last, Di?

Dianne remarked, ‘We are so grateful due to the kind-hearted individuals who rescued us.’ Meanwhile, Chris chimed in, ‘It’s all thanks to the selfless actions of those folks who took the time to call and help.’

Prepared our fingers for action and communicated via messages, emails, or any means you prefer – even sending a message with a bird outside the window attached to a note. Rest assured, we’re still around.

Shifting gears towards discussing Chris’ emotions, Dianne expressed: ‘It seems important that we address the emotional aspect of this situation, don’t you think?’

‘You know what I’m like today Di,’ Chris replied.

Dianne stated: “Chris seems incredibly emotional today. Each time, he always gives me a very tight hug at the end, as if to express his feelings.

Chris said, “I held onto you tightly at the end just to keep from crying on TV,” he explained. “The relief of finishing, your joy at the end, and the audience’s response were overwhelming. It’s a lot, even our lips quivered.

As a devoted supporter, I wrapped my arms around you in a heartfelt embrace, holding tight until I found my voice. The outpouring of support from the community during the weekend was simply astonishing. Your performance was nothing short of remarkable as well.

Dianne commented, “Thanks! We truly excelled in our work, and I can’t wait to tell you that the future is bright. We’ve got another wonderful dance coming up this week, and I’m genuinely thrilled about it. I’m really proud of you.

It comes after Chris hit back at Sir Alan Sugar’s criticism of the show with a withering comeback.

Last night, during the results show of The Apprentice, I found myself in agreement with Lord Sugar, who seemed genuinely frustrated by what he considered as the unnecessary gimmicks that were present within the BBC series.

He commented on X that it’s hard to predict when ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ will exhaust their supply of creative contestant themes. It wouldn’t shock me if they introduce an AI robotic dancer next season, as well.” (Attribution: @bbcstrictly)

In response to the numerous remarks, Chris, the first blind contestant, retorted in a witty manner, saying, “I’m sorry if my unique aspect is troubling you, great one,” referencing a well-known quote from Sugar on The Apprentice: “#You’reWornOut.

On the weekend performance, Anton Du Beke enthusiastically declared that Chris’ dancing was “the absolute best and most stunning display I have witnessed on this show.

The former professional dancer, now serving as a judge, expressed his admiration, saying Chris’ dance moves are both ‘extraordinary’ and ‘remarkable.’ He emphasized that he judges Chris just like any other competitor.

Anton stated: “In week one, we discussed his unique ability to dance despite being blind. Since then, we’ve avoided the topic because he prefers to be judged like any other. However, I must share with you that he’s indeed blind, yet he performs on sofas and leaps from various objects, always impeccably timed.

‘He seems to be handling things effortlessly, if I’m being truthful. It’s so captivating that I struggle to find the right words to describe it. And let me tell you, Dianne is doing an exceptional job; in my opinion, I would have hesitated and retreated instead of moving forward.’

She’s just told him to leave, and it was perfectly timed. Truly remarkable. Her sense of rhythm is outstanding. Let me say, that was the best moment I’ve witnessed on Strictly Come Dancing so far.
