Wallace & Gromit director explains return of Feathers McGraw
As a gamer who has grown up with Wallace & Gromit, it feels like coming home to hear about the return of Feathers McGraw. I remember the thrill and suspense of The Wrong Trousers back in 1993, and the menacing presence of Feathers was a significant part of that experience. His comeback in Vengeance Most Fowl brings a sense of nostalgia, but also the promise of new adventures.
Wallace & Gromit director Nick Park has opened up about the return of Feathers McGraw.
The infamous antagonist, initially depicted in the 1993 short film “The Wrong Trousers,” is set to return in the forthcoming film titled “Vengeance Most Fowl.
As a gamer, I found myself growing uneasy when Wallace’s newest creation, the ‘smart gnome’, began showing signs of a malevolent intelligence all its own.
In the midst of all the turmoil, it turns out that the mischievous penguin makes another appearance in our story. Interestingly, it seemed that the decision to bring him back into the picture was a slightly delayed brainstorm during the film’s planning stage.
He remarked at the Deadline’s Contenders London event that technical issues were somewhat expected. However, we required something with a stronger impact and a definite, menacing purpose instead.
Clearly, Feathers McGraw appeared to be an ideal fit, given his three decades spent incarcerated, brooding over vengeance. His situation seemed tailor-made for a sinister antagonist.
Carla Shelley, the executive producer, commented: “When Nick revealed to everyone in the studio that Wallace was designing an intelligent garden gnome, we all felt quite thrilled.
A while into the proceedings, when it was disclosed that Feathers would return, a shiver ran down everyone’s spine.
Previously, the question that Park has been asked more than any other throughout the years has been if Feathers McGraw might make a comeback.
He shared that it was enjoyable to involve him again in brief appearances, but after thirty years, it seemed fitting to make this change.
In the movie titled “Vengeance Most Fowl“, Ben Whitehead lends his voice to the character of Wallace, while Peter Kay reprises his role as police officer Albert Mackintosh.
Additionally on board are Adjoa Andoh from Bridgerton, Reece Shearsmith of Inside No. 9, Lenny Henry from The Rings of Power, Diane Morgan of Motherland, and Lauren Patel from Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
