Dame Joan Collins oozes sophistication as she pops to M&S for a Saturday grocery shop in a cream flat cap and Burberry scarf

As I delve into the captivating narrative of Dame Joan Collins, a woman whose life and career have been as glamorous and enigmatic as her iconic characters, I find myself utterly mesmerized. Her journey from the glittering world of Hollywood to the opulent mansions of Dynasty is nothing short of extraordinary.

Joan Collins exuded elegance while she ran errands at M&S for her weekly groceries, donning a cream fedora and Burberry shawl.

Over the weekend, the renowned actress, now 90 years old, used Instagram to announce that she had ventured out to a well-known British grocery store to purchase some delightful goodies.

On her shopping outing, she maintained her stylish elegance, donning a coordinating flat cap and cream coat, even sharing a laugh with a female checkout attendant.

Joan donned oversized, brown shades indoors, complemented her look with bold red lipstick, and selected chicken, salad, and a bouquet of roses.

‘So here we are on Saturday afternoon, getting groceries for the weekend,’ she said. 

Here’s our plan for today: We’ll be having salads and chicken, and maybe some lovely-looking roses as well. Plus, it seems quiet and private, which is great. Enjoying a peaceful Saturday, indeed!

After Joan had shared her experience of being deprived of food while working on the set of Dynasty, it was reported that the show’s management refused to allow the cast to eat.

For eight years, from 1981 to 1989, she portrayed Alexis Carrington Colby in an American soap opera. During this time, she reminisced about the crew indulging in ‘snacks and treats’ while the actors were often left appearing like ‘skeletal figures.’

On Monday’s episode of Loose Women, she delved into her extensive career in show business and the part that launched it.

I was instructed not to snack between meals. There were plenty of baked goods and treats among the crew that seemed irresistible, leading some to gain about two stones. Yet, we were always told, “No, no, no, reach for a carrot stick instead!

‘If you looked at us all we were like stick insects.’

Joan remarked, “The jacket I wore during the series is the sole item I retained because it has a timeless Yves Saint Laurent look.

Regarding the series that centered around a made-up American family dynasty, it was none other than Donald Trump, then aged 78 and formerly the U.S. President, who was one of its most avid fans. His admiration for the show played a role in shaping Joan’s character portrayal.

When someone inquired about the character Alexis I was envisioning, I replied by suggesting a blend that reminded me of Donald Trump, who at that time was merely a businessman and hadn’t yet become President.

Additionally, there’s an acquaintance of mine, a charming socialite known for her wit, whom I aspired to emulate in my own unique blend.

Later, Louis inquired about the particular traits of Trump that the actress had embodied in her portrayal, specifically noting his ruthless nature. (The actress highlighted his ruthlessness.)

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself often avoiding delving deep into political discussions. After all, my profession is acting, and I believe it’s best for us to focus on sharing stories rather than expressing personal political views.

Instead of saying, “Just joking, they’d probably remark, ‘That’s excessively dramatic.'” A more natural way could be, “Jokingly, I’d say it’d be considered as too much for a movie role.

Elsewhere in the episode Joan  candidly discussed her own experiences as a young actress in Hollywood.  

Although she gained significant fame from her role in an 80s soap opera, she had already made appearances in films during the 1950s and 1960s, sharing the screen with legendary stars like Jayne Mansfield and Paul Newman in Hollywood.

And revealed she was told ‘not to be glam to get parts’.  

Louis asked her: ‘Do you not feel completely appreciated?’

Joan responded, “I’m not suggesting that I’m unappreciated, but I feel I’ve grown more than people realize. There’s a reluctant sort of, ‘Yes, she’s fantastic, but she can’t really act; she just fits these roles,’ and the early reviews mainly focused on my appearance.

In a playful and slightly sarcastic manner, I’d often sway my hips or give suggestive looks to the main actor. It was as if I was secretly mocking him a bit.

Louise asked: ‘Do you care?’, Joan bluntly replied: ‘No. You are bringing it up, I don’t care.’
