Disney+ sets release date for new Beatles documentary

As a gamer born in the late ’70s, I can vividly remember the Beatles’ music being played in my parents’ house and the nostalgic feeling their songs evoked. The news about Martin Scorsese’s new Beatles documentary, “Beatles ’64,” is like striking a gold mine for me! I grew up watching Scorsese’s masterpieces like Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, and Raging Bull, so seeing him delve into the Fab Four’s history is truly exciting.

Disney+ has announced the release date for Martin Scorsese’s new Beatles documentary.

The Academy Award-winning director is working on the production of “Beatles ’64”, which will be available for streaming on Disney’s platform starting November 29, 2024.

David Tedeschi is taking charge of the project, having worked with Scorsese on rock music documentaries such as “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story” by Martin Scorsese on Netflix and the David Johansen concert special titled “Personality Crisis: One Night Only.

In the album “Beatles ’64“, the duo reminisce about the Fab Four’s inaugural journey to the United States, where they etched their name into television folklore by performing a live set on The Ed Sullivan Show, captivating an astounding audience of 73 million viewers.

On February 7th, 1964, The Beatles made their way into New York City, sparking unmatched enthusiasm and frenzy. As soon as they touched down at JFK Airport, greeted by throngs of fans, Beatlemania took over not just New York, but the entire nation.

Their electrifying first performance on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ mesmerized over 73 million viewers, making it the most-watched television event ever. The album ‘Beatles ’64’ showcases this grand spectacle, but also delves into a more personal account of what happened behind the scenes, revealing the friendship between John, Paul, George, and Ringo as they navigated through unforeseen fame.

Scorsese and Tedeschi have recently conducted interviews with surviving members of the Beatles, namely Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with passionate fans of the band. The movie also incorporates historical footage shot by documentarians Albert and David Maysles back in 1964.
