The Royal Family praises walkers who have walked 450 miles for the Emmaus charity

These brave individuals embarked on an epic 450-mile pilgrimage, averaging a daunting 10 miles per day for six weeks – a feat that would put many video game quests to shame!

1) In the United Kingdom, homelessness is a significant issue, with Queen Camilla being associated with a charity dedicated to resolving it. Notably, a group of walkers recently completed a Walk of Kindness on World Homelessness Day, and the Royal Family extended their warmest congratulations upon finishing their 450-mile trek.

“Our walkers have made it home!”

Starting on August 26, in St. David’s, Wales, the “Walk of Kindness” commenced as a pilgrimage reflecting the daily solidarity and compassion demonstrated among community members. This extensive journey required its participants to walk approximately 10 miles per day for six weeks. The Emmaus UK site explains that it follows the path of the recently established Via Beata pilgrimage route, passing through our location in Ditchingham.

It’s also notable that the companions who completed this walk “have experienced homelessness, housing insecurity and often severe trauma.” Chloe, one of the walkers congratulated by the royals had this to say in her testimonial:

Being at Emmaus has meant for the first time in my entire life that I’ve actually seen a future and not just the next day. I’ve had so much support here and the chance to do things myself and learn from each mistake I’ve made. I wouldn’t be here without Emmaus.

Since 2006, Queen Camilla has served as their patron, and last year, she joined Sir Terry Waite, President of Emmaus UK, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Emmaus Bristol. As reported by the Daily Mail, this charity addresses homelessness by offering individuals a place to live and a job. The residents, referred to as companions, work within the charity’s shops and warehouses in exchange for shelter and sustenance.
