Sydney Sweeney underwent a remarkable makeover, becoming almost untraceable as she stepped into the role of boxer Christy Martin for David Michôd’s upcoming biography, filmed in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday.
26-year-old actress, recognized for her iconic blonde bombshell style and hourglass figure, opted for a brunette curly wig, blue bandana, and loose clothing to embody the essence of Martin during his 90s peak – a time period preceding her husband’s attempt on her life.
Instead of donning her famous figure-hugging outfits, she opted for a casual ensemble consisting of a brown shirt, blue hoodie, and joggers. Her makeup was kept light, giving a natural look, as she was accompanied to the filming location.
The star’s chest appeared to have been flattened with tape for her transformation.
In the movie, Sweeney appears alongside Ben Foster, portraying their antagonistic husband character James. Notably, Hugh Jackman, known for his role in X-Men, undergoes an impressive metamorphosis, sporting a blond wig and facial makeup.
He wore a blue polo shirt, joggers and sneakers as he headed to set.
Born and raised in West Virginia, where her father was a coal miner, Christy (age 56) is widely recognized for having brought women’s boxing into the limelight. This recognition came after she faced Deirdre Gogarty in a highly-anticipated match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1996, an event that sold out its tickets.
She adorned the front page of Sports Illustrated, showed up on various chat programs, and occasionally popped up as a guest star in American television comedies.
Beyond the glossy facade, Christy’s life held a harsh reality. She has shared with The Daily Telegraph her experiences of enduring two decades of abuse from her partner and coach, James ‘Jim’ Martin.

In June 2012, Jim received a 25-year prison sentence following his conviction for both attempted second-degree murder and manslaughter.
Currently, Christy is employed as a promoter, having been wedded to Lisa Holewyne, a former boxer with whom she shared the ring, since 2017. This union came after Christy publicly identified as a lesbian following the dissolution of her previous marriage.

During a conversation about the upcoming project helmed by director David Michód, she expressed her excitement to TMZ, particularly about the cast, given Sweeney’s background in mixed martial arts and competitive fighting.
The Emmy-nominated actress said she was ready for the ‘physically and emotionally demanding’ part in the biopic, which will be put on the market at the Cannes Film Festival.
The esteemed boxer from the Hall of Fame expressed heartfelt praise for Sweeney and completely debunked the assertion made by a prominent Hollywood producer that she lacks beauty and acting skills, as was earlier suggested.
‘I think she is young, hot, talented,’ she said about the leading lady.
She mentioned that Sweeney is soon producing a film that, in twenty or more years, fathers and daughters may choose to watch together, serving as an educational tool about the importance of recognizing and addressing domestic violence.

Sweeney previously said that she ‘grappled and did kickboxing from 12 to 19 years old.’

Additionally, Martin added that she would love to make a cameo as a nod to her fans.
