Growing up watching this iconic series, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with sheer excitement at the prospect of witnessing yet another season unfold.

In 2025, Big Brother will make a comeback on Australian TV screens, bringing several significant updates along with it.

The reality TV series will return to its original broadcasting station, Channel Ten, next year, as they promise to align the Australian edition with its successful format.

As I step into the role of your go-to lifestyle guide, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news for 2025! Get ready to peek into a vibrant world of housemates around the clock, as our beloved reality series makes its grand return. And here’s the twist: our fabulous new host, Mel Tracina, will be steering the ship, ensuring we bring you the freshest and most engaging content all day, every day!

Tracina intends to give a fresh update to the series now that she’s assumed the role of host, following Sonia Kruger who won the Gold Logie.

At the ACRA Awards in Sydney over the weekend, Tracina shared with Daily Mail Australia that Australian viewers will now be able to watch the game live.

‘What’s so good about this is the livestream element,’ she said.

Fear not, my dear friend, for I assure you that with this unique setup, there’s no need to fret over subpar editing or unwanted ‘villain’ labels. The beauty of it all lies in the fact that you can hop on at any moment and catch a glimpse into the lives of these fascinating housemates, making every viewing experience as authentic and captivating as the next!

In the early 2000s, a popular television series, where contestants vie for a chance to remain in the house and claim cash prizes, experienced incredible popularity on Channel Ten.

After that shift, the program has moved between various networks multiple times – initially airing on Channel Nine, followed by an updated edition on Channel Seven. Notably, Big Brother has maintained strong audience ratings, thanks to its live streaming across platforms in countries like the U.S. and the U.K.

Over the course of its three weekly broadcasts on CBS, streaming platforms, and Paramount+’s 24/7 live feed, the American franchise garnered a total watch time of 8.3 billion minutes, according to Forbes.

In 2022, the enduring reality TV show managed to rival the success of popular streaming series such as fresh seasons of Bridgerton, Stranger Things, and the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.

In the upcoming year of 2024, it was announced that Big Brother Australia will not be airing on Channel 7 due to its most poorly-rated season thus far.

Initially airing at 7:30 PM, the program was shifted to a later time slot after only one week on television. In the five major cities, its fifteenth season finished with only 152,000 overnight viewers – a massive decrease from the viewership it had when it returned in 2020, which was 853,000 viewers.

Last season’s rebranding efforts left me underwhelmed, centering around cultivating romantic connections among the attractive, eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.

Many found that the latest season bore a stronger resemblance to Love Island rather than Big Brother, as one person expressed on social media during that period: “Let’s return to the days when ordinary folks were on here. Why should I vote for any of these individuals?

‘So sad to see what was once a great show absolutely ruined,’ another lamented.

‘I found out I got the job pretty quickly before the news came out,’ Tracina told Daily Mail.

‘I grew up watching it. When it came out in 2001, I was there.’

Prior to this job, she had gained recognition for her position as a ‘culture correspondent’ on the comedy talk show “The Cheap Seats,” which airs on Channel Ten.

‘This is so huge to me. It’s also just the fans that love it, it’s a juggernaut of a show,’ she added.

‘It means so much to so many Australians, so I feel the pressure of doing the best job that I can.’

One reality TV competition, famously referred to as Big Brother, stands out due to its unique features. Unlike many others, it unfolds live while being aired, and gives viewers the exclusive, uncensored peek into the house’s happenings.

Through live broadcasts, spectators can witness the game evolve organically, rather than relying on pre-arranged narratives or edited sequences prepared by producers.

It comes as reality TV fans switch off shows they feel are over-produced or have only cast social media influencers.

In the new show “Made in Bondi,” controversy arose when people learned that none of the Australian actors had been born or brought up in the famous suburb, and the homes featured in the series were merely rented properties.

The Block fans panned the 20th anniversary season as fake and ‘scripted’.

It appears that Channel Nine inadvertently revealed the lineup for its 2024 season, featuring a past competitor on their survival series The Summit, a victor from FBoy Island (USA), a professional athlete known for her bikini contests, popular TikTok sensations, and an alumnus of Love Island (USA).

Simultaneously, the Australian version of Shore, known for its explicit content, gained popularity due to the fact that many of its “wild” characters were drawn from Queensland nightclubs.

During the height of Big Brother’s fame, it consistently attracted approximately 1.4 million viewers per episode, making it a cornerstone program on Channel Ten for eight consecutive seasons.

Channel Ten is pushing for a revival of the original, classic show that won your heart long ago by featuring regular Australians, potentially bringing back the series to its former greatness.
