Big Bang Theory spin-off on Max: Is a Stuart, Denise, and Bert sequel series really necessary?
As a die-hard fan of The Big Bang Theory who’s watched every episode at least three times, I’ve got to say that the news of a spin-off featuring Stuart, Denise, and Bert has me feeling a bit like Sheldon when he’s presented with a new scientific theory: intrigued but skeptical.
Not too long ago, I was thrilled to hear from Max and Chuck Lorre, the genius behind The Big Bang Theory, about a spin-off series in the works. Since then, there hasn’t been much news on the topic, but recently, we’ve finally got some updates!
The Deadline news indicates that a spin-off of the popular sitcom TBBT is being developed, focusing on three beloved side characters: Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman, his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), and geologist Bert Kibbler (Brian Posehn). At this point, it hasn’t been given the go-ahead by Max. A script is currently being drafted, and it appears that the streaming service will make a decision based on this script before moving forward.
At the moment, there’s one question we’re pondering – is a spin-off of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ featuring Stuart, Denise, and Bert truly essential? To put it simply, my personal opinion is no. I admired these characters during the original series run. They were fantastic, with Stuart being a key contributor to the humor since season 2.
The storylines involving Howard’s mother, who was living with him and Bernadette while taking care of their children, were an enjoyable aspect of the Big Bang Theory. However, it’s hard for me to say this, but I don’t believe that these side characters could sustain a show on their own.
Occasionally, secondary characters can gain significant popularity and adoration among fans, but in this case, I believe their appeal doesn’t warrant an entire series dedicated solely to them. The success of “The Big Bang Theory” prequel, “Young Sheldon,” lies in its focus on Sheldon Cooper’s younger years. Even with the upcoming sequel series, “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage,” premiering Oct. 17, 2024, I remain unsure if it will thrive independently. However, I am eager to see how it unfolds; only time will reveal its potential.
Even though I’m deeply attached to this series and its characters, it seems like the right moment for us to bid farewell to this franchise. It’s had an incredible journey and provided some unforgettable moments. But now, it feels like we’re ready for fresh adventures. As for your question, a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory focusing on Stuart, Denise, and Bert sounds intriguing! What are your thoughts?
