The investigation ended with Rach discovering the identity of Imran Aziz’s killer, only to be placed on suspension by the head of police while they continued their probe.

In November of 2022, it was announced that the series DI Ray would be continued for a second season. At that time, Nagra expressed in a statement: “It’s such a pleasure to receive the positive reception we did for the first season.

Due to your support, ITV’s backing, and the exceptional creativity of our team led by Maya Sondhi, Jed Mercurio, Madonna Baptiste, and Jimmy Mulville, we have the opportunity to do it all over again. We can’t wait to embark on another exciting journey with you!

In two months, season two continues with Rach returning to homicide work following her suspension. This is triggered by a drive-by shooting that claims the life of Frank Chapman, a prominent figure in a well-known local criminal organization.

The official summary goes on: “Detective Inspector Ray is desperately trying to expose the truth before the Chapman clan takes action for their vengeance, leading to a full-blown gang conflict on the city’s streets.

Additionally, we have Gemma Whelan reprising her role as DCI Kerry Henderson, along with Jamie Bamber taking up his part as DI Martyn Hunter, and Steve Oram returning as DS Clive Bottomley.

In the upcoming season, we won’t be seeing Maanuv Thiara anymore, as his character, PS Tony Khatri, met his end in the final episode of season one.

DI Ray season two will premiere on ITV on October 20.
