The Royle Family’s Sue Johnston in first-look trailer for Channel 4’s gory horror series
As a seasoned gamer and horror aficionado with a penchant for the macabre, I’ve seen my fair share of zombie apocalypses – but none quite like the one promised in Channel 4’s upcoming series, Generation Z. With its unique blend of humor, political commentary, and visually stunning set pieces, this show seems to be shaping up as a fresh take on the undead genre.
A gory first-look trailer for Channel 4 series Generation Z has been released.
In a made-up community, an unsettling mix of comedy and terror unfolds as elderly care home inhabitants are transformed into zombies following a chemical spill. These undead individuals then encounter local teens.
In this chilling preview, the camera takes us on a journey, viewing the scene through the eyes of a dinner plate, as Sue Johnston’s character from The Royle Family gets ready to cook a meal.
Following its placement, we briefly catch sight of her somewhat lifeless expression, and subsequently discover the contents of the platter – a detached head.
The series unfolds in the quaint town of Dambury, a place boasting limited activities yet abundant potential, and seemingly an unlikely starting point for any cataclysmic event.
When a military supply truck flips over near a retirement home, a hazardous substance spills out, causing harm to the residents. The elderly inhabitants, under the guidance of Cecily and Frank, manage to flee as the authorities aim to control their bizarre, aggressive, insatiable craving for uncooked meat.
On the fateful night of the virus outbreak, my friends – Charlie, Kelly, Steff, and Finn – and I were just living our typical teenage lives: sharing beers, navigating emotions, dealing with intricate relationships, and procrastinating from our A-Level studies. But suddenly, our ordinary world was turned upside down when Kelly’s grandmother Janine contracted the virus, causing her to attack her instead.
In the film directed by Ben Wheatley, we find a cast that includes Lewis Gribben, who starred in “Masters of the Air,” Jay Lycurgo from “The Batman,” Robert Lindsay known for his role in “My Family,” Johnny Vegas, Buket Komur of “Our House,” Anita Dobson famously from “EastEnders,” and Viola Prettejohn, a star from “The Nevers.
Previously discussed regarding the series, Channel 4’s commissioning editor, Rebecca Holdsworth, stated that it will encompass the distinct visual style and playful essence that is typical of Ben’s cinematic endeavors.
She noted that it’s both devilishly amusing, cleverly political, and promises an extraordinary blend of suspenseful surprises and chills. This makes it clear that we’re dealing with a zombie drama unlike any other.
Generation Z will premiere on Channel 4 on Sunday, October 27.
