I find myself deeply moved by the remarkable journey of Lewis Hamilton, a man who has not only conquered the world of Formula One but also bravely navigated the complexities of his personal life with unwavering resilience and determination. His story is one that resonates with many, as we all strive to find our own path while grappling with the challenges that life throws at us.

On Thursday night, Lewis Hamilton and Miles Chamley-Watson celebrated well into the wee hours at Chiltern Firehouse in London.

At a prestigious private club, Formula One driver, aged 39, and an American fencer, also 34 years old, were accompanied by two attractive female friends.

Lewis had a stylish appearance, donning a black and yellow jacket paired with trousers of the same color. He accessorized with blue sneakers and rectangular sunglasses to finish off his fashionable ensemble.

Simultaneously, Miles showed off his tattooed torso beneath a white vest, layered with a blue zip-up hoodie and loose-fitting jeans.

The girls, dressed stylishly in mini-skirts and crop-tops, exited and entered just a short while before Lewis and Miles made their appearance.

Earlier in the evening, the pair attended the launch of the Dior Men Lifestyle Capsule collection.

After Lewis shared his experiences with mental health issues, including his long-term battle with depression that started at age 13, he expressed his intention to seek help from a therapist.

He said he experienced ‘some really difficult phases’ in his life and admitted he had ‘struggled’ with his mental health since he was a teenager, but had finally found solace on and off the racing track.

His victories followed immediately after Hamilton concluded a challenging 945-day victory drought, achieving his ninth triumph at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix in July, where he started in first place.

Hamilton’s win was his first since the race in Saudi Arabia from December 2021, the event that came before his disappointment in Abu Dhabi, where Max Verstappen prevented him from claiming an eighth world championship title in one of the most disputed races ever held in motor racing history.

At the British Grand Prix, when Hamilton celebrated his win, he couldn’t help but break down in tears, looking back on the emotional ups and downs that led him back to standing atop the winner’s podium.

Those tears might have been just as much about feeling relieved as they were about joy, since he had carried the burden for years – the strain of keeping the number one position in the sport he cherishes, which he eventually acknowledged.

However, during an open conversation with The Times, Hamilton expressed that he didn’t have anyone to confide in regarding these matters when he was younger. Now, he is contemplating reaching out to a counselor or therapist.

Back then, I conversed with a lady, but it didn’t yield much. Today, I yearn to connect with someone who might truly assist me in my quest.

The victorious athlete mentioned that he’s occasionally faced challenges in “quieting his thoughts,” but meditation, regular pre-dawn jogging, secluded getaways, and literature on psychological wellness have proven beneficial for him in banishing unwanted mental clutter.

He pinpoints some of his issues back to his childhood when he was bullied at school and faced racism as a child of mixed heritage.

Anthony, his father, hails from Grenada, whereas his mother, Carmen, was born and raised in Birmingham.

In his belief that it was the proper course of action, Anthony urged Hamilton not to respond or retaliate, but instead, Hamilton bottled up his feelings.

He remembers that there was simply no avoiding it, as he encountered racist sentiments wherever he traveled, yet his parents never took the time to help him understand why this was the case.

Hamilton recounted his father saying, “Stay focused, suppress emotions, don’t speak up, simply outperform them on the racetrack, that’s your only option.

Anthony played a significant role in shaping Hamilton’s professional journey, acting as his manager throughout his illustrious Formula One career. He oversaw every aspect, from managing his financial affairs to ensuring the success of his racing endeavors.

In 2010, however, Hamilton decided it was time for him to break free, leave behind his old ways, and take charge of his life, even if that meant making his own mistakes – a decision that led him to dismiss his father from his position.

He recalls that moment as a ‘really tough process’, but one that was necessary.

Hamilton expressed it this way: ‘Parents naturally strive to shield their children, perhaps forever, but sometimes they find it hard to relinquish control. That was a struggle my father faced.’

The pair are however as close as ever today.

Upon Hamilton’s victory at the British Grand Prix, Anthony was the first one to embrace him as he exited his Mercedes. As he took off his helmet, Anthony gently wiped away Hamilton’s tears.

Later on, he shared his feelings: “I’m still tearing up. There’s nothing more satisfying than crossing the finish line first here.

Despite the challenging times we all face, remember it’s crucial to find the strength within yourself to rise again, even when you feel as though you’ve hit rock bottom. Keep going, keep digging deeper!

Since the year 2021, there have undoubtedly been moments when I questioned my competence or doubted whether I could regain my current position. However, I’ve been fortunate enough to have amazing individuals who have stood by me and provided support during these times.

Earlier in 2022, Hamilton openly discussed his mental health struggles following his disappointing 10th place finish at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

At that point, he admitted he was facing difficulties both mentally and emotionally, and it required great perseverance just to carry on.

The Formula One world champion made the admission via a post on his Instagram.

The 37-year-old mentioned, “This year has been quite challenging given all the events unfolding. There are days when maintaining a positive outlook can be difficult.

For quite some time, I’ve been battling both mentally and emotionally, and it takes great effort just to persevere. Yet, we must continue the struggle. There’s so much left to accomplish and conquer.

He later added in a second post: ‘I am writing to tell you it is OK to to feel the way you do, just know that you are not alone and that we are going to get through this.

Today, a friend subtly emphasized that I possess immense power and am capable of accomplishing any goal if I truly commit my thoughts to it. Similarly, we have the ability to achieve anything when we focus our minds on it.

‘Let’s remember to live in gratitude for another day to rise. Sending you love and light.’
