Now that Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is available on Disney+ and Season 3 is already in production, fans can expect to see more adventures with Daredevil. The storylines introduced in the first season of Born Again will likely be wrapped up in the remaining eight episodes, and it looks like Wilson Fisk’s time as mayor is coming to an end.
A single line of dialogue from the first episode of Born Again might be foreshadowing future storylines, potentially introducing a well-known enemy of Kingpin with surprising ties to both him and the criminal world of Marvel’s New York.
BB Has A Warning For Daniel
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again starts with BB Urich, the niece of the late Ben Urich, trying to take down Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. She’s secretly using Daniel Blake, one of Fisk’s top aides, to help her, without him knowing her true intentions. BB has developed a friendly connection with Daniel and is concerned he’ll be harmed when Kingpin’s empire falls.
BB doesn’t hesitate to tell Daniel her thoughts directly. When she visits his impressive new apartment, she’s both wowed and worried to learn that Wilson Fisk owns the building and gave Daniel a very favorable rental agreement.
Daniel claims the apartment is completely above board, but BB is skeptical. Worried about Daniel, she warns him to be cautious, explaining that when Fisk’s schemes inevitably fail, Daniel will likely suffer the consequences, not Fisk himself.
Is Daniel Being Set Up For A Fall?
Based on what we’ve seen in Daredevil: Born Again, Daniel isn’t particularly bright. He’s driven, hardworking, and fiercely loyal, but he doesn’t spend much time thinking things through. This combination of traits makes him an easy target to be manipulated.
Daniel rapidly climbed from a volunteer on Fisk’s mayoral campaign to Deputy Mayor, largely by consistently agreeing to opportunities. This pattern suggests his decline will also be swift, likely resulting from overcommitting and saying ‘yes’ when he shouldn’t.
It’s also becoming obvious that Kingpin has a genuine fondness for Daniel, seeing him as someone he trusts, not just an employee. We learn after Daredevil’s initial appearance in season 2 that only a few people knew about the Northern Star – Kingpin, Buck Cashman, the captain, and the first mate. However, this information turns out to be false.
It’s obvious Daniel was aware of what was happening and shared it with BB. He wasn’t motivated by a desire to defeat Kingpin, but rather by his eagerness to be part of the inner circle and his attempts to gain BB’s approval. Daniel likely knew because Kingpin trusts him deeply, possibly even viewing him as a son figure.
Everything seems to be heading towards a terrible outcome for Daniel. Fisk will probably betray his aide, blaming him for the crimes to save himself. Predictably, Daniel will end up taking the fall.
Okay, so Daniel isn’t exactly a genius, but he’s seriously determined and puts in a lot of effort. And trust me, when someone like that decides they want revenge, you don’t want to be on their bad side – they can be really scary!
If Daniel sacrifices himself to cover for Fisk and betrays the man he considers a father, he’ll have only one path to revenge: becoming a masked vigilante and dismantling Fisk’s control over the criminal world. He’ll need to become Fisk’s biggest problem.
And comics fans may already know who Daniel could become.
The Rose Nearly Destroyed Kingpin
The Rose was a shadowy character aiming to take control of New York City’s criminal organizations by defeating the Kingpin. What surprised everyone was his true identity: he was Richard Fisk, the son of Wilson Fisk, previously thought to be deceased.
Richard pretended to die when he discovered his father wasn’t the honest businessman everyone thought, but a powerful crime boss. Furious, Richard vowed to take his father down, and he started by becoming a villain known as the Schemer.
The scheme nearly succeeded: Schemer’s betrayal, compounded by the fact that he was Kingpin’s son, put Wilson Fisk in a coma. However, Richard realized he still loved his father and, like any devoted son, sought a way to help. He turned to Hydra, who claimed they could revive Kingpin – and surprisingly, they succeeded.
Once they discovered Red Skull was actually in charge of Hydra, both Wilson and Richard Fisk teamed up with Captain America and Falcon to defeat him. Richard adopted the identity of ‘Rose,’ using a purple mask to conceal himself as he joined his father’s organization. However, Richard couldn’t abandon his own ambitions and quickly began plotting against his father again.
When Rose, a new villain, ignites a gang war, Spider-Man and Daredevil are overwhelmed, forced to battle every criminal group in Manhattan to protect the city. Rose’s backstory – a rejected son seeking revenge on Kingpin – is a compelling narrative. Although Wilson Fisk doesn’t have a biological son in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has taken in Daniel as his own.
Okay, so we all know Wilson Fisk is a bad guy, but what’s really chilling is how easily he’d ditch anyone who’s been loyal to him just to save his own skin. I fully expect Daniel to become a pawn in Fisk’s game, taking the fall for whatever shady dealings the mayor’s involved in. Honestly, if that happens, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Daniel don a purple mask himself and start down a path of vengeance. It feels like that’s where this is all heading, and frankly, it’s a compelling setup.
