Iconic Wicked poster gets an update for the movie
As a gamer with a heart for musicals, I must say that the anticipation for the “Wicked” movie adaptation has been nothing short of enchanting. Having grown up listening to the original soundtrack and watching numerous stage performances, I feel like I’ve been on this magical journey with Elphaba and Glinda for quite some time now.
I can hardly contain my enthusiasm as we’re only a month and a half away from stepping into the magical world of Oz! The anticipation is everywhere, it’s tangible. Funko Pop! is bringing our beloved witches to life, while Starbucks will serve Elphaba’s Green Elixir for those who identify as “wicked through and through.” The trailers are a delight, showcasing each unique character, and get this – there’s even a Monopoly game in the works! In one of the most straightforward rollouts, this musical adaptation has just revealed an updated poster for the musical. I can hardly wait to immerse myself in this enchanting experience!
“What is this feeling?”
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande recreate iconic ‘WICKED’ poster.

The initial artwork for this post was a minimalist, artistic piece created by Dewynters PLC, known for its past work on various West End plays. This poster, featuring Elphaba with a mischievous grin and Glinda hinting at a secret, has been utilized since the San Francisco production in 2003 and has served as the symbolic representation of the Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holtzman for over two decades.
This poster’s design is universal, catering to its adaptability. Since 2003, numerous leading actresses have graced the stage, with Idina Menzel, who won her first Tony for portraying Elphaba, not being the first to perform the score. Regardless of whether your Elphaba is Jennifer DiNoia or your Glinda is Helen Dallimore, you can easily identify the schoolfriends depicted on the poster. In fact, a 5th anniversary recording in 2008 showcased both the Japanese version of “Popular” and the thrilling “Gutes Tun,” a counterpart to “No Good Deed.” The versatility of this poster is due to its depiction of characters, making it applicable for every casting situation.
“Our paths did cross at school.”
In this unique film adaptation, no other version will compare when it comes to portraying the witches of Oz. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are making a strong impact by courageously tackling roles previously occupied by many actresses. Notably, the redesigned poster showcases them prominently.
The way they’re dressed carries a lot of meaning too. Unlike Dewynters PLC’s portrayal where the characters are just in black and white outfits, these witches appear in garb that symbolizes their maturity. Glinda is clad in a pink dress and tiara, reminiscent of her victory song against the Wicked Witch of the West, while Elphaba dons the hat and cloak she’ll use when leaving the Emerald City.
Keep yourself ready as we count down towards an eagerly awaited moment, not too far off now, which feels like just a single delightful day spent in the radiant Emerald City.
