In a heartfelt address at the Glamour Women of The Year Awards, the celebrity openly admitted that her body has sustained irreparable damage, stating it will never be the same again.
2013 will always stand out to me as a momentous year – the year I was honored with the title of Radio Personality of the Year! Looking back, it felt like a turning point for women, particularly when it came to embracing our bodies and promoting body positivity. What an exhilarating time that was!
As a passionate advocate, I echoed her heartfelt concerns when she lamented the resurgence of the “heroin chic” trend. In her powerful address, she underscored the distressing reality that women are yet again subjecting themselves to pain and jeopardizing our wellbeing in pursuit of an idealized, unattainable aesthetic – often associated with the ‘Snapchat face’.
In her words, she strongly encouraged women and girls, saying: “Please, from my position where my body bears the scars of societal beauty ideals, I implore you not to undervalue yourselves.
To commence her discourse, Jameela first addressed the optimism that characterized the 2010s, but then expressed her worry about apparent regression since then.
A prominent actor from “The Good Place” remarked: ‘Boys are often motivated to sculpt their physiques, as well as shape their futures and lasting impacts.’
‘While women and girls are starving, injecting and hurting – and sometimes literally dying – for the fastest possible route to the ever-changing, fickle beauty standard.’
‘Why is women’s discomfort and harm still so hyper normalised?’ the actress asked.
Jameela subsequently called upon all females and adolescent girls to resist the oppression of misogyny, choosing actions that empower rather than harm them instead.
In her impassioned address, Jameela articulated a concern that the patriarchy attempts to sideline, undermine, and efface us as we mature because we grow increasingly challenging to manipulate, for we embody an ever-increasing worth.
And let’s avoid discovering, as it may lead us to invest more time and effort into actions that could bring about a balance in the world.
With a grin, she noted: “Perhaps we’ll begin enjoying full rest. Maybe we’ll even consume adequate nourishment.
‘We might become too happy in ourselves and genuinely confident in who we are. Can you imagine what we could do?’.
