The DC Universe has cast another Justice League hero
As a gamer with a lifelong passion for comics and superheroes, I can hardly contain my excitement about the latest developments in the DC Universe! The casting of Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan is already making waves, but the announcement of Aaron Pierre as John Stewart has sent me into an absolute frenzy.
In the emerging universe of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding Superman. Yet, it’s not just him who’s making an appearance in the future Justice League; casting is currently in progress for the original HBO and Max series, “Lanterns,” which centers around none other than the Green Lanterns.
In a recent announcement, it has been disclosed that Kyle Chandler will portray the veteran Green Lantern character Hal Jordan. This story appears to involve Jordan working alongside a younger Lantern called John Stewart, another well-known DC hero. Now, we also know who will be playing the part of this iconic figure.
According to an announcement from The Hollywood Reporter, actor Aaron Pierre is now part of the DC Universe as John Stewart, the Green Lantern. The article discussed the selection process and how it ultimately led to a screen test with Kyle Chandler, who has just agreed to portray Hal Jordan in the upcoming live-action DC Comics project.
On Thursday and Friday, it was observed that both Pierre and Stephan James took part in on-screen auditions. Over those days, each performer had an opportunity to share scenes with Chandler. Despite their performances being very competitive, the choice was made regarding the preferred candidate today.

Additionally, Gunn confided to a fan through another social platform that Pierre’s screen test was what ultimately convinced him that Pierre was the ideal candidate for the part.
Other key facts to remember is that Director James Hawes (Slow Horses) has been connected to reports of helming the first two episodes of the new HBO original. Before this, Gunn also assembled a writers room for the series, which is led by Ozark’s Chris Mundy. Mundy is overseeing the eight-episode series as showrunner, along with Damon Lindelof, the creator of HBO’s Watchmen and the seminal TV show Lost, and Eisner Award-winning comics author Tom King, who both serve as executive producers and writers.
The series titled “Lanterns” is anticipated to carry a feel reminiscent of “True Detective.” In this show, veteran Lantern Jordan will be training a younger Lantern, John Stewart, who was one of DC Comics’ earliest Black superheroes in their publishing history. The plot revolves around the duo solving an Earth-bound murder with far-reaching consequences. As of now, it remains uncertain how this tale will influence other stories within Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe.
Lanterns has no slated release date as of yet.
