Howie Mandel issues groveling apology to Kelly Ripa after snapping at her on-air in awkward exchange

Howie Mandel has apologized to Kelly Ripa after a brief, sharp exchange during his recent appearance on “Live With Kelly and Mark.”

The 70-year-old TV star appeared on Monday’s show with Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos.

The conversation turned to his appearance, with Ripa commenting on how good he looked for his age. He pointed out, though, that he didn’t appreciate the way she’d phrased the compliment, saying it didn’t make sense to him.

On Saturday, Mandel went to his main Instagram account to clarify that the whole thing was ‘just a joke.’

Standing on the beach, the celebrity confessed to his fans that he’d been wrestling with whether to share something for two days, and wasn’t sure if it was the right decision.

I don’t think comedians should have to apologize for jokes. Jokes are meant to be funny, not to cause offense.

The personality stated that they’ve never apologized for a joke in their 50-year career, and don’t feel obligated to do so even if someone doesn’t like it.

Mandel then admitted ‘this is hard for me’ before giving a message directly to Ripa.

He shared that she’s been a wonderful support to him throughout the years. He explained they’ve worked together in many ways – he’s been a guest on her show, they’ve cohosted together, and they’ve been friends for a long time.

The star said that when he ‘goes out there, I just try to be entertaining and funny.

Sometimes when I’m performing comedy, jokes just don’t quite hit right. And… it’s hard to explain when that happens…

After a short moment, Mandel apologized to Kelly, admitting, ‘You’re right, and I’m truly sorry it took me so long to understand.’

After a lot of consideration, he concluded with a confident statement about his appearance: ‘I honestly look great for my age. I really do look fantastic, and I need to simply accept how good I look.’

In the caption of his latest post, the comedian simply typed out: ‘Message to @kellyripa.’
