During a conversation with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine (released on Wednesday), she shared insights about handling the public scrutiny while going through the dissolution of her marriage with Affleck, who is 52 years old.
She also spoke about canceling her tour while under intense public scrutiny.
On our two-year wedding anniversary last August, I, a devoted admirer, found myself filing for a divorce, marking an unfortunate end to our union. The rift between us proved too deep to mend, and so, with a heavy heart, I formally declared the date of our separation as April 26th.
Later on, she remembered noticing the intense reaction on social media and the painful remarks that accused her of causing their split.
Lopez mentioned that due to her prolonged exposure under public scrutiny, she’s become adept at tuning out distractions.
In an interview with Glaser from September, she clarified that what others write or say about her personality, and their assumptions, do not reflect her true self. She’s known this for quite some time.
As someone who’s already accustomed to life under the spotlight, I find myself less engrossed by social media compared to many others, I clarified.
She expressed confidence, stating, “I recognize myself as a good individual. I acknowledge my role as a caring mother. I am aware of my close companions. They undoubtedly understand me, my family – my mother, my father, and other related matters.
In her own words, the actress from Atlas mentioned that to sustain a lasting career in the world of entertainment, she’s had to master the art of navigating through its business aspects.
She stated, “There will be those who appreciate you, others who might struggle to grasp you, and still others who may harbor negative feelings towards you simply for the sake of it. Regardless, none of this truly impacts you.
As an artist, what truly matters to me is creating work that ignites my passion and brings me joy, regardless of whether it becomes a massive commercial hit or resonates with just one individual who may not be widely recognized.
In her discussion, the actress from Maid in Manhattan emphasized that anything beyond that particular aspect is insignificant.
She added: ‘This is my life’s passion. I love to sing. I love to dance. I love to act. I love to entertain. I love to create.’
In spite of it all, however, she said that it is still hard to ‘see something that’s hurtful.’
‘Please don’t get me wrong,’ she said. ‘I’m not Teflon.’
In a later part of our discussion, she brought up the topic of handling internet trolls who disseminate negativity online.
She stated, “To thrive in this field, you must recognize that the majority of individuals may be dissatisfied in some manner.
Regarding ‘someone creating a video to jump onto something,’ the mother of two – known for sharing 16-year-old twins Emme and Max Muñiz with her former husband, Marc Anthony – expressed: ‘With these stunning kids and so much excitement in my life, how can I focus on that when I have all this beauty surrounding me? I simply cannot.’
Regardless of challenging circumstances, I find myself saying, ‘I know what’s real.’ With my chin up, much like Dory from Finding Nemo would say, ‘Just keep swimming.’
