Disney announces when Goosebumps: The Vanishing drops on Disney+

As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard fan of the chilling tales spun by R.L. Stine, I couldn’t help but feel a shiver of anticipation upon hearing the news about Goosebumps: The Vanishing gracing our screens on Disney+. The show’s first season was a rollercoaster ride of suspense and terror that left me sleepless for nights, and the promise of a second season only fuels my excitement.

Goosebumps is coming back for Season 2 on Disney+ and we’ve got details on The Vanishing!

Disney+, much like other streaming platforms, has developed a pattern of abruptly ending enjoyable series after only one season, including _Willow_, _American Born Chinese_, _Renegade Nell_, and even _Star Wars: The Acolyte_. It’s noteworthy that the popular show _Goosebumps_ was granted a second season despite being overshadowed by more prominent productions.

It helps the show has a built-in fanbase, based on the long-running young adult horror books by R.L. Stine. It focused on a pack of teens who are haunted by a twisted spirit that ties into a crime committed by their parents and integrating parts of several of the books. The show was a good success, earning a second season.

Instead of reuniting the original actors, the show is planning to adopt a story-based structure where each season tells a different tale. Consequently, Season 2 has been renamed and introduces a fresh narrative, titled “The Vanishing.

The story features David Schwimmer, most recognized for his role in “Friends,” portraying Anthony Brewer, a character who was once a botany professor and now delves into science and enigmas. He takes his children to their old residence in Gravesend, Brooklyn, where they form new acquaintances and stumble upon a puzzling mystery connected to the disappearance of kids in 1994 – coincidentally, the year when “Friends” first aired on television.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing begins when twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex (Francesca Noel), CJ (Elijah M. Cooper) and Frankie (Galilea La Salvia) — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

The upcoming show will draw from various renowned stories like “Stay Away from the Basement,” “The Haunted Automobile,” “Monster Juice,” “The Girl Who Shouted ‘Wolf,'” “The Spirit Next Door,” and “Welcome to Nightmare Camp.” Additionally, the ensemble features Ana Ortiz portraying Jen, a tenacious detective who continues to reside in her Brooklyn community following an unfortunate incident during her teenage years that involved her close-knit friends.

2025 is set to see the return of chilling tales with the grand debut of all eight episodes from the new season of Goosebumps, streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting Friday, January 10. Further details are forthcoming, including a trailer, but it seems that Goosebumps is gearing up to once again give us goosebumps and send shivers down our spines!

Goosebumps: The Vanishing premieres on Disney+ Friday January 10.
