As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for biographical dramas that delve deep into the lives of iconic figures, I am thrilled about the upcoming release of “A Complete Unknown.” The star-studded cast, led by the talented Timothée Chalamet, promises to bring the journey of this enigmatic character from a 19-year-old carnival tale-spinner to an icon we all recognize, in a way that only director Rupert Mangold can deliver.

Timothée Chalamet put in a lot of effort to portray the iconic figure Bob Dylan convincingly for the authorized biopic by Searchlight Pictures titled ‘A Complete Unknown’. On Tuesday, they released their second trailer.

28-year-old Oscar nominee has earlier demonstrated his genuine vocal talent by performing A Hard Rain’s A‐Gonna Fall (1963), and now he showcases it again with renditions of Girl from the North Country (1963) and Like A Rolling Stone (1965).

‘He worked his butt off,’ movement coach Polly Bennett confirmed via Instagram.

‘And I helped.’

It is said that Timothée Chalamet apparently chose the very same group, which comprised Scott Flaherty as a vocal coach and Erik Singer as a dialect coach, the same team that Austin Butler had employed to portray Elvis.

Timothée Chalamet, known as Lil Timmy Tim in his rap persona, has previously showcased his talents in the musical prequel to Willy Wonka directed by Paul King, titled “Wonka,” and in Woody Allen’s 2019 romantic comedy “A Rainy Day in New York,” where he co-starred with Elle Fanning.

In the new preview, Bob juggles romances with fellow singer Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro) and Sylvie Russo (Elle Fanning), who’s a thinly-veiled version of the late artist Suze Rotolo.

Sylvie remarked, “When you arrived, all you had was a guitar. And I’ve noticed that you rarely discuss your personal history or family.

Dylan responded: “Sylvie, people often construct their own past. They recall what suits them, while leaving out the details they no longer need.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d put it this way: Back in 1964, I found myself parting ways with my partner, who was then 83 years old. The reasons for our separation were complex – a private matter involving an abortion and another man, in this case, Mr. Baez. It was certainly a challenging time in my life.

‘How about that Joan Baez, folks?’ Bob said onstage.

‘She’s pretty. Sings pretty. Maybe a little too pretty.’

In the following scene, Dylan openly criticized her work by saying, “Your songs are akin to an oil painting in a dentist’s office.

‘You’re kind of an a**hole, Bob,’ Joan replied.

Once Dylan’s folk music career gained momentum, he became well-known for his rebellious act of switching to electric music and engaging in substance abuse with alcohol and drugs. However, Timothée’s performance lacks the same level of intensity or recklessness.

200 individuals were present in the room, and every single one wished I was someone different. They might as well accept who I am, thought Bob sadly.

‘Let you be what?’ his bandmate asked.

Dylan replied: ‘Whatever it is they don’t want me to be.’

‘They just want me singing Blowin’ in the Wind for the rest of my goddamn life.’

James Mangold’s film version of Elijah Wald’s 2015 book, Dylan Goes Electric!, appears to conclude with a groundbreaking electric performance by Bob Dylan at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

At the 1964 Newport Folk Festival seems to be where Bob may have encountered Johnny Cash for the first time, and they are seen interacting in the trailer for A Complete Unknown.

‘I’m not sure they wanna hear what I wanna play, Johnny,’ Dylan said.

That’s when Johnny – played by Boyd Holbrook – whispered: ‘I wanna hear it.’

‘Make some noise, BD.’

On Searchlight Pictures’ YouTube channel, user Longleke commented: “At the end of this trailer, Johnny Cash appears as if he’s making a surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, the film director, now aged 60, who was behind the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line” featuring Joaquin Phoenix, has earlier expressed that he is not involved with ‘alternate realities or dimensions.’

In a conversation with Rolling Stone in July, James said, “Johnny Cash was around thirty years old in that period. However, Joaquin isn’t thirty yet, much like how Johnny was at that specific moment.

In that specific stage of life, they’re both young individuals. Strangely enough, I’ve been part of the IP entertainment industry, yet I dislike intricate multi-movie universe development. To me, it’s a hindrance to storytelling, even a killing blow. Instead, I find people more captivated by understanding how Lego pieces fit together than focusing on the plot itself.

In my perspective, the aim of this film is consistently to identify its distinct qualities and characters. I strive to avoid creating a story that makes you compare it to other movies, search for hidden references or engage in any intellectual exercise. Instead, I aim to craft a film that resonates emotionally with the audience.

Mangold praised Chalamet, saying he beautifully portrays the transformation of a 19-year-old carnival storyteller into a figure we know as an icon.

Alongside Edward Norton, Nick Offerman, Dan Fogler, and Joe Tippett are featured in the movie “A Complete Unknown”. This film is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on December 25, 2024, and in UK theaters on January 17, 2025.

Previously, two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett convincingly portrayed the character of young Bob Dylan during the electric era, known as Jude Quinn, in Todd Haynes’ highly praised and innovative film titled “I’m Not There,” which was released in 2007.

However, A Complete Unknown will be executive produced by Bob himself.

On Tuesday evening, the artist formerly known as Robert Zimmerman, better known as Dylan, will embark on a global tour titled “Rough and Rowdy Ways” that will make a stop at Germany’s Messehalle in Erfurt.

This esteemed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is indeed a priceless asset to our nation, boasting an impressive collection of awards. With ten Grammy Awards under his belt, an Academy Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Pulitzer Prize special citation, and the Nobel Prize in Literature, this individual’s accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary.
