This pair has become a firm favorite with TV viewers, and they’ve even been nominated for a BAFTA award together for the first time this week.
Amanda Holden and Alan Carr enjoyed a luxurious trip back to London from Inverness on Sunday, traveling by private jet.
The 49-year-old comedian has officially become a baron after purchasing a castle in Scotland for £3.25 million – a property reminiscent of the one featured in the TV show The Traitors.
Amanda, 55, and Alan recently checked out the comedian’s new house, which he’ll be featuring in an upcoming Disney+ series.
I’ve been following Alan and Amanda’s work for ages! They’re amazing at what they do – they’ve already revamped so many beautiful homes all over Europe in their BBC shows, and I always look forward to seeing what they do next.
Alan and Amanda’s Spanish Job earned its stars a nomination for Best Entertainment Performance at this week’s BAFTA Television Awards.
Alan said appearing on the show Celebrity Traitors last year motivated him to buy the extravagant castle.
I was so surprised to learn that the presenter actually owns the title of The Barony of Ayton! He’s even said he’s designing his own tartan, which I think is fantastic – a really personal touch and a lovely way to connect with his heritage.
The barony dates back to 1324 and was available to purchase alongside the estate.
Alan spoke to Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson on their Staying Relevant podcast, about his new status.
He explained he’s embracing a new phase of life, wanting to focus on personal fulfillment now that he’s fifty. He feels a sense of urgency and wants to enjoy life on his own terms, imagining a desire for a comfortable, secure existence – a ‘castle,’ as he put it – and acknowledging he doesn’t have unlimited time.
‘I’ve always wanted a castle. I’m a baron. I’m going to get my own tartan’.
Let me clear something up – I recently purchased something, and there’s been some chatter that someone else got to it first. But that’s just not true! I’m happy to confirm it’s mine. There was a bit of confusion, but I wanted to set the record straight.
I’m really excited about this project – it’s been a long time since I felt this enthusiastic! I have the survey data, and I’m just waiting to get access to the necessary systems.
Alan separated from his husband, Paul Drayton, in 2022 after 13 years of marriage, and playfully suggested he might find a new partner in the afterlife.
This large property includes an impressive 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of beautiful gardens, and even a small railway line.
Alan has ambitious plans for the estate and has already secured a multi-million dollar agreement with Disney+ to create a series following the castle’s transformation into a high-end hotel and spa.
The meeting to share details about his plans has been delayed because far more people than expected were planning to attend.
The event was originally planned for earlier this month, but it had to be canceled because Ayton Bowling Club, the planned venue, only holds 120 people.
People who live nearby are worried that the public might not be able to visit the castle grounds anymore.
People can share any questions or concerns they have about the program with the community council for now.
Alan revealed his intention to purchase a castle last month while on Jonathan Ross’s talk show, where they were both guests on the show ‘The Traitor’.
He jokingly announced he was buying a castle, admitting it was a bit of a midlife crisis. He explained he’d always wanted a turret – a personal space – and felt inspired by the castle featured on the show The Traitors, leading him to decide to actually purchase one.
The popular comedian shared that he’s been feeling lonely as he approaches his 50th birthday in June. He hopes to turn his castle into a welcoming place for visitors and eventually create something like a large animal sanctuary there.
I’m turning fifty this year – though I don’t feel my age – and I’m hoping to find a place of my own. It might seem like a big dream, but I’m relocating and really want a property where I can have animals and be part of a friendly neighborhood.
I feel quite isolated here. I’d really enjoy it if people visited and we could have tea and scones together. I’d love to create a cheerful atmosphere with animals like donkeys around the place.
The real estate agent offered me Highland cows, and I said, “Sure, let’s get some.” I’m also interested in bringing wolves back to the land. As a landowner, I believe I have the ability to do that.
That sounds good, and it would be beneficial for the environment. I seem to recall reading about that somewhere, so I’ll need to consider it. I envision creating something like a classic, expansive zoo – I really like that idea.
I’m so excited to share that I’m taking on a huge project – completely renovating a centuries-old estate and turning it into a real, livable home! And the best part? I’ll be documenting the whole process for a new series coming to Disney+. It’s going to be quite the journey, and I can’t wait for you to see it all unfold.
The new show, currently called ‘Castle Man,’ will be similar in style to Jeremy Clarkson’s popular BBC home renovation series featuring Amanda Holden. It’s being made by Expectation, the production company behind ‘Clarkson’s Farm’.
