Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher special confirms release date after Daredevil: Born Again’s finale

Marvel has announced that Jon Bernthal will be reprising his role as the Punisher in a new series called Punisher: One Last Kill. Bernthal recently returned as the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again, and this new installment will be a standalone special.

The final episode of Punisher will be available on Disney+ on Tuesday, May 12th, just before the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again airs on May 15th.

This upcoming special is expected to have a similar style to Werewolf by Night or The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The main actor played a significant role in developing it.

Jon Bernthal helped write this special with director Reinaldo Marcus Green, after first suggesting the idea while working on the first season of Born Again.

So, I heard this actor originally left the show Born Again because he wasn’t feeling the way his character was going. But things changed in 2023 – they did a big creative reset, and a new showrunner, Dario Scardapane, came on board. That’s when he decided to come back to the project, which is awesome!

Jon Bernthal first appeared as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, in the Netflix series Daredevil in 2016. Due to the character’s popularity, he later starred in his own show, The Punisher, which aired for two seasons until 2019.

Jon Bernthal is returning to his role as the Punisher, not only in the new Daredevil series, but also in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie starring Tom Holland, which will be released in theaters on July 31st.

You can now watch seasons 1 through 3 of Daredevil, along with Daredevil: Born Again, on Disney+. The Punisher: One Last Kill will be available starting Tuesday, May 12th.
