Star Wars series not cancelled after all; another season being “explored”
As a seasoned Star Wars fan who has followed the franchise since the release of the original trilogy, I can confidently say that the recent developments in the Star Wars TV series have been nothing short of exhilarating! The expansion of the universe through various shows on Disney Plus has been a thrilling ride, and the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi, portrayed by the brilliant Ewan McGregor, was the cherry on top.
The distant galaxy we see has broadened its scope over the past five years. The Star Wars saga commemorated the debut of the Disney+ streaming service by narrating tales within it, resulting in several shows specifically created for this platform. Notably, one of these shows marked the beginning of the Disney+ era when The Mandalorian was released alongside the platform in 2019.
After that point, the Star Wars universe has been expanding its collection with numerous shows, some serving as sequels or extensions of The Mandalorian, while others highlight iconic characters from the series. Additionally, fresh narratives have emerged within this massive universe, not just extending the Skywalker Saga but also venturing into uncharted territories of the franchise’s storytelling.
Over the past couple of months, fans of the Star Wars television series have experienced an unusual stretch. Some reports suggest that several shows have been axed (for various reasons). Interestingly, it seems that one show that wrapped up two years ago could potentially come back with a bang.
Ewan McGregor reveals Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is still possible
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share! Remember when Ewan McGregor rocked LA Comic-Con and hinted at a possible second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi? Well, it looks like our favorite Jedi might be back for more adventures in the Star Wars universe.
According to Deadline’s report, McGregor hinted that Lucasfilm and Disney might be brainstorming concepts for a possible second season of the series, with him mentioning they were “considering” various ideas.
Obviously, between the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and when Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi, there’s got to be another few stories in there.
In the year 2001, the renowned actor first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and later reprised his role in subsequent films Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Despite mixed reactions to the prequel trilogy, McGregor’s acting was widely praised by fans who considered him one of the most recognizable figures in the Star Wars universe.
It was particularly significant when it was disclosed that the character would reappear in a Disney+ series. This move not only showcased an innovative application of the novel streaming service, but also offered an exciting opportunity to explore untouched aspects of one of Star Wars’ iconic figures. The gamble proved successful, as Obi-Wan Kenobi eventually became one of Disney+’s most widely watched original productions.
Since the final episode aired, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about another season. Although most people thought it would be a standalone series, I’ve held on to the hope that Denis McGregor might reprise his role someday.
McGregor expresses optimism about potential future journeys in the distant galaxy, sharing with LADBible last year that he anticipates another opportunity and is confident that they will indeed have it.
